We are Black Consciousness Poetry (BCP).
Black Consciousness Poetry(BCP)  was officially formed on October 2014, as awareness movement.
Our movement is built on the foundation of Black Consciousness Movement, founded by our revolutionary father Bantu Stephen Biko.
We subscribed to the concept of Black Consciousness and our current approach is through poetry and discussions that seek to emancipate the minds of our people.
By our people we refer to blacks and by blacks we refer to , Bantu's, Khoi, San, coloureds and Indians.
But we understand that not all this people will identify themselves as blacks and so Bantu Steven Biko taught us that when we say blacks we mean those by law or tradition of this country were and at some level are still being politically, economically and socially discriminated against as a group and they have identified themselves as a unit to fight against the struggle towards the realisation of their aspirations.
We have those who are Bantu by blood or looks, who are coloured by blood or looks, who are Khoi by blood or looks, who are San by blood or looks and those who are Indians by blood or looks but they do not identify themselves as part of those who are discriminated against, they do not see the need for what we do and so they are referred to as non-whites.
For their aspirations is whiteness but their pigmentation makes such an impossibility.
The term black has nothing to do with the colour of one’s skin, but to do with the reflection of our mental attitude.
We as BCP have a desire to see black people(Bantus, Khoi, San, coloureds and Indians) free.
We do this by visiting history, through reading books, writing poetry that is inspired by black pain, inspired by black excellence and achievements.
So to show our people that they are not as inferior as they have been taught to believe and to behave.
We host poetry sessions, discussions, we get invited to other platforms, we get invited by students in UCT, by a leader of the way of life church in Khayelitsha. We aim to go to High schools, we basically go anywhere where our people are.
We are currently based in the Milnerton area, Cape Town South Africa.
 
We currently have two projects that are running, the project named Afrodara and the BCP Ubuntu Campaign.
The project Afrodara is aimed at celebrating the inner beauty and the outer black beauty of our women as we have noticed how such women are not recognised by the modern day society that we live in.
We would love to bring about young black proud women who are not ashamed of their natural bodies, their natural skin, their natural hair, their cultural identity, their traditional pride and ultimately their natural beauty.
We have realised that such women are brave as they have to go through the critics of being natural by other women and men in our society.  The critics of being labelled as being old fashioned or backwards living.
These women who embrace and celebrate their natural black beauty, inspires us.
They are displaying that element of self-love, that element of accepting your own and not trying to fit into a standard that is set by people who does not even love you, our nation.
And so through this project, we encourage such women to carry on being proudly black and naturally beautiful.
 
The Ubuntu campaign is to spread black love, black unity, black pride and black excellence in the streets of cape town.
When the sun rise we go out on scheduled calendar dates and go get our blackness, we raise our boards high at cape town train station.
What is written on those boards is our very own proud idioms taught to us from the wisdom of our ancestors.........

Bendi Huru is a Nairobi based music group, Bonded by their love for artistry the band was formed in May 2016 at the Kenya National Theatre, it consists of vocalist Titus Ngumbi aka Titoh,Leeroy Mromaa,Trizah Ochieng & guitarist /poet Mayuu Sanaa.

Their music sound is Rhumba with an afro-fusion touch. They refer to their music genre as African feel. Their music is based on themes that range  from love, faith, liberation and Culture.

Bendi Huru  have staged performances on different platforms across the country among them, Poetry After Lunch at the Kenya National Theather,  Upgrade Poetry  Nakuru,Sanaa Festival Moi university, Kenyatta University, ‘Art kwa Street’ on Aga Khan Walk  and many others platforms.

Bendi Huru's greatest asset is the fact that each individual member is Song writer making making the groups music product truly unique and catchy to audience across ages.

Sereetsi & the Natives is a refreshing definitive reference in the contemporisation of folk music in Botswana and a unique voice in the World Music arena. The act presents a fearless new sound that is as forward looking as is rooted in the indigenous musical traditions of Botswana.
Sereetsi’s signature is the Botswana four string folk guitar and the many traditional rhythms of the southern African country. A songwriter, producer and author, Sereetsi has emerged as the foremost curator of this oral guitar tradition, thanks also in part to the release of his acclaimed book/CD, the first ever guitar instructional book/CD in Botswana, titled The Solo Four String Guitar of Botswana.
The 83 page book resulted from a research of the Botswana folk guitar's tuning, chords, song form, origin and development.
Sereetsi & the Natives debut album, Four String Confessions is due for release April 30, 2015. The album, which features US harmonica virtuoso, Mitch Grainger and Swedish drummer and producer, Mikael Rosen, .is arguably one of the most anticipated records in the country this year.


The essence of the "Never Heard Of" podcast series (which also airs on Planet radio 101.1fm Uyo) is to showcase amazing creators in the field of music, fashion design, and art who are creating amazing works but for some reasons are not getting the attention they deserve.
