GIMME SOME SPACE

Romans 15:27 Yes, they were pleased to do so, and they are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things.
The Jewish believers in Jerusalem first circulated the gospel in the Gentile world. Paul said the Gentiles were indebted to the Jews in Jerusalem because they shared their spiritual things with them. It seems that need is at the center of this conversation. The Gentiles were in need of spiritual things. Paul described their spiritual need in this way to the Ephesians in 4:17-19. “So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding,  excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.” The Gentiles needed the good news of the gospel. God met their need by sending His Son through the Jews and then sent them out to the world with the promise that He would be with them to the end of the age. That ministry continues to this day. 
The Jews in Jerusalem were in need of material things. Earlier in this letter Paul wrote, “Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another” (13:8). Love, when it sees a need, leaps into action to meet it. In the case of the poor in Jerusalem, the Gentile believers were aware of their need for material supply and were indebted to them. In return for their spiritual needs being met, the Gentiles were indebted to meet the needs of the saints in Jerusalem.
What an encouragement this is for us who live to love with Jesus. God met our spiritual needs by giving us His Son. We are indebted to Him. Since He now lives in His body on earth, when we see a need, whether spiritual or material, we are indebted to Him and should share what God gives us with them. When we love our brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to share what God has given us to meet their needs, whether spiritual or material. Sometimes we don’t have what is needed. When that’s the case, we aren’t meant to be the supplier. Other times, the need is obvious and we have what they need, such as in the case Paul mentioned in this verse. 
May God glorify His name by inspiring us to love with Jesus. Let us be thankful for His abundant supply of grace through Christ, and may we be quick to share with others as we see their need.

Mike Lisk AKA AP Mike of The Best Show and co-host of his own Egg Foo What?! podcast takes us INTO THE MARLOWEVERSE with a pair of very different portrayals of Raymond Chandler's cynical gumshoe Philip Marlowe. 

Mike's choice, MURDER MY SWEET (1944), is one of the first examples of film noir, and its success--along with DOUBLE INDEMNITY from the same year--added the spark that set off late 40s film noir explosion. It's also a way stoney and a total gateway drug to classic cinema with its snappy dialog and its trippy AF hallucination sequences. Former song-and-dance man Dick Powell plays Marlowe in this one, and he handles Chandler's dialog with a sense of cartoon humor that makes this one stand out. Directed by Edward Dmytryk (one of the Hollywood 10) with a script by John Paxton, the writer of several classic noirs (CROSSFIRE, CORNERED), and the uncle of crime fiction comic book writer Ed Brubaker (it runs in the family). Our next interpretation of Marlowe comes three years later while film noir was in full swing. Like Dick Powell before him, Robert Montgomery used his portrayal of Marlowe to shed his nice guy image, only he did it while barely being seen onscreen! As director and star of LADY IN THE LAKE (1947), Montgomery shot the entire film from Marlowe's jaundiced point-of-view. We only see the private eye when he's looking at himself in the mirror, making it one of the strangest films every made. While Mike and the OMFYS crew can't quite agree on if this cinematic experiment is successful or not, they all think that Montgomery put the dick in private dick as he is the surliest of the movie Marlowes. This is really saying something when you consider that Humphrey Bogart, Elliott Gould, Robert Mitchum and growly-assed Liam Neeson have all taken turns as the detective, and none of them are Mr. Sunshine. With Audrey Totter as the femme fatale, and Lloyd Nolan as a tough-talking cop who might not be on the up-and-up. Streaming on Criterion Channel.

The scenic artist and multi-instrumentalist @claraguilar moves from performing arts to cinema as a composer and live performer. Over the last few years he has created soundscapes that blend electronics and sampled elements with orchestral arrangements, becoming one of the main names of the Spanish theater scene when it comes to soundtrack and sound design creation.

After her acclaimed EP 'Mystery is All' Lapsus is proud to present 'Figura', CLARAGUILAR's debut album, a heartfelt tribute to her connection with the scenic world, and especially with the operatic universe. The starting point of this project was born with the concept of an "invisible orchestra", an imaginary that aesthetically becomes a reality on stage thanks to the collaboration with the Barcelona studio Oscila, as well as with the help of the stylist Joan Ros, who has been in charge of the costume design.

‘Figura' is a space in which electronica, ambient, and chamber-pop coexist; all under an operatic halo full of drama. Once again, the producer locked herself down from late 2022 to the beginning of 2023 to compose all the tracks in a very intimate and closed composition process. The album dives into the melodic landscapes, merged with orchestral samples and chopped voices containing mysterious messages inside. Each track is a pixelated lightshow and a live electronic instrumentation, presented onstage as an elegant performance with an expansive emotional range.
