Bio:

After experimenting with various musical instruments (including guitar and percussion) in his formative years, Zion's Gate Sound owner Selecta Element started rapping as MC Element in 1993, at the age of 13. Music was central to the rhythms and flows of the family during the Maryland years, as a teenage boy Element was rapping, writing lyrics, graffiti and making mixtapes with cassette tapes. It wasn't until 1997 that Element started spinning records in Seattle. This is when he discovered that DJing was a true calling and committed to crafting his style and developing his art. Zion's Gate Sound was formed in 1998 and since then, Selecta Element has been playing shows, bars and clubs regularly all over the NW. ZGS cut their first dubplates as actual combos with Ras Shiloh and MC Element circa 1999 but didn't start actively cutting dubs until 2006.

ZGS also regularly tours Europe, Canada, California, Oregon, Washington DC, New York and Hawaii, with tours in the Caribbean Islands, Asia, South America and Australia in the works.

Zion's Gate Sound entered the Clash business in 2006, and has since been in 5 sound clash events resulting in two First Place trophies, two runner up, and one 3rd place finish so far! Look out for big things from Seattle's Champion sound - ZGS - a top ah top clash and jugglin' machine, a vessel for JAH's music......

MONDAY NIGHT JAM JAM featuring Zion's Gate Sound's DJ Element plus guests every week formerly at Baltic Room and Monkey Loft now at Havana in Seattle since 2006.  DJ Element has been crucial in helping to build the West Coast's number one online radio station for Reggae music and culture called Nice Up Radio since its inception in 2016.  www.niceupradio.com
