Ed is a palaeontologist who helped bring the dinosaurs back to life but has never had the chance to see one up close. When he learns about a local dinosaur rescue sanctuary and decides to visit, he doesn’t expect to fall head over heels for a cute blond reading to a dozen baby dinosaurs.

Dinos in this chapter:

Opabinia - tiny, soft-bodied arthropod, lived approximately 505 million years ago and grew to a maximum of 7cm in length.
Anomalocaris - one of the largest creatures of the Cambrian era, around 35cm long, and one of the earliest examples of an apex predator.
Cambroraster - another large creature from the Cambrian era, with a horseshoe-shaped carapace.
Arthropleura - largest known millipede, lived approximately 344 to 292 million years ago, and could grow up to or possibly over 2.5m.
Mammoth - refers to any species of the well-known extinct elephantid genus ‘Mammathus’. There were many species, with the most familiar typically being the woolly mammoth, which existed as recently as 4000 years ago.
Spinosaurus - large dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous, with a distinctive dorsal sail.
Oxalaia - controversial genus of Spinosaurid dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous. Some believe it is not distinct enough to be differentiated as a different species to the Spinosaurus.

Aquilops - a tiny genus of neoceratopsian from the Early Cretaceus, with a triangular skull and a tiny recurve beak. It's estimated an adult could reach around 60cm in length and a weight of 1.5 kg.
Allosaurus - well-known large carnivorous dinosaur with distinctive brow crests above its eyes. It was one of the top predators of Late Jurassic North America, and the most common, making it one of the best-studied theropod dinosaurs.
Velociraptor - small dromaeosaurid dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous. Though most familiar to the general public due to its prominent role in Jurassic Park, Velociraptor was actually roughly the size of a turkey and considerably smaller than the reptiles seen in the novels and films, which were based on a Deinonychus, and the size of a Utahraptor.
Mosasaurus - a marine reptile (not a dinosaur) that lived during the Late Cretaceous. With bodies streamlined for swimming and featuring a long, powerful tail and paddle-like limbs, its largest species is estimated to measure up to 12 meters (or around 40 ft) in length.
Dimetrodon - a quadruped synapsid (so, also not a dinosaur) that lived during the Early Permian period. Its most prominent feature was the large sail that ran along of its back, and its high, narrow skull with differentiated teeth.
Therizinosaurus (shortened to Therizino) - very large, bipedal, plant-eating dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous. Feathered, slow-moving, long-necked, and equipped with a horny beak and a wide chest, its forelimbs were particularly robust and had three fingers that bore claws that could reach 1 meter (3.2 ft) in length.
Ground Sloth - herbivorous mammals from the Ice Age. They varied widely in size, with the largest species (Lestodon, Eremotherium and Megatherium) reaching the size of elephants.
Diplocaulus - amphibian from the Permian period. It had a distinctive boomerang-shaped skull and a stocky, salamander-like body that reached up to 1 m (3.3 ft) in length.
Didelphodon - marsupial mammal from the Late Cretaceous. It was roughly the size of a Virginia opossum, and it is believed to have had an otter-like body and a head similar to a Tasmanian devil.
Sabre-tooth Tiger - Smilodon's more common nickname. An extinct big cat that lived during the Pleistocene and early Holocene. Similar to modern lions and tigers in size but of a more robust musculature, they get their nickname from their massive 7 or 8-inch (or around 20 centimetres) long canine teeth.
