In 1994 the Russian regime launched a brutal invasion of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. The invasion was supposed to bring the small Muslim republic back under the control of the Russian federation following their Declaration of Independence a few years earlier. The operation did not go as planned and despite massive, brutal campaigns against the civilian population the invading army was defeated, although at a huge cost to the Chechen population. The Russian federation eventually conquered and subjugated the population a few years later with the help of local collaborators and by successfully framing the Chechen rebellion as ‘Islamic fundamentalists’. The conflict morphed into a Guerilla war fought from the mountains and remote villages of the republic against federal forces and their local collaborators. Unfortunately it also attracted Islamic extremists to the cause as the west and Europe ignored the brutality and the population were left without friends and allies.
Today they live under the oppression of the Moscow appointed ruler Ramzan Kadyrov.

This track samples a song from Imam Alimsultanov, a widely popular chechen musician who was assassinated by the Russian security services in Odessa, Ukraine.
