a dream in the daylight is an Atlanta based pop/singer-songwriter artist. 

When I was in college, I came up with the artist name “a dream in the daylight” as I was working on original lyrics and music for the song writing courses that I had taken. Music reflects and expresses our desires and dreams through song. We listen to and create music about those dreams when we are awake, which is why I love the name. Music gives life and feeling to what we may not know how to express with just words. 

In doing some research around that phrase, I recently discovered that the writer George Elliott, which is a pen name for Mary Ann Evans, used the phrase “a dream in the daylight” in one of her works titled “Impressions of Theophrastus Such”. While the piece is a fictional diary of sorts from the perspective of a Greek philosopher, the way Evans explained the concept through the character resonated with me. 

“...I am always glad to believe that the poverty of our imagination is no measure of the world's resources...he composed as he went along, and that the exercise was accompanied with a great sense of power. This is a frequent experience in dreams, and much of our waking experience is but a dream in the daylight.”
