I'm happy about how close I came to it sounding like the idea in my head.

I was relistening to the music in the Sonic & Knuckles Collection via my JV1080 when I noticed that the music to Mushroom Hill Act 2 had instrumentation that was shockingly quite similar to that of Origins CNz1. Likely meaning that the MHz2 that appeared in that build of the game probably sounded like this.

I had been considering a sound configuration to reproduce the "Etrian Odyssey" with real FM sound sources, but I think this configuration is quite close to the correct answer.
