Lazy Lions channel the influence of '80s power pop/new wave wonders into something tough-but-tuneful for today. They have been known to cover Squeeze and Split Enz at their shows, and they abjure attitude in favor of honest intensity and earworm hooks. Cool cred seems like a long shot for this lot once you start adding up the stats. Frontman Jim Allen has been compared to such chronic cult figures as Graham Parker and Mark Eitzel; guitarist Robert Sorkin started his musical career as a professional French horn player (he hits the horn a couple of times here too); bassist Anne-Marie Stehn bears a deep, abiding passion for Abba and Wings, and drummer Sean McMorris is no beat-happy brute but a crafty composer who studied at Berklee College of Music and cowrote several cuts on this album.

Though When Dreaming Lets You Down... is the New York quartet's debut album, it didn't exactly arise from a tabula rasa. The band members have all been around the block enough to have plenty of past lives in their collective resume. Besides Sorkin's stint with the Monterrey Symphony, Allen recorded and toured as a solo singer/songwriter, Stehn served time with major-label bound distaff rockers Antigone Rising, and McMorris manned the kit for legendary Television axeman Richard Lloyd as well as cutting his own material. But when they come together as Lazy Lions on When Dreaming Lets You Down... this foursome foments a singular spirit that encompasses all their influences and adds something new to the mix. "I Don't Think It's Going to Stop" moves like early Elvis Costello on a '60s British Invasion kick. "Let the Bad Times Roll" evokes a sort of sonic grudge match between The Police and The Smithereens. "Tiny Little Cracks" seems to wonder what would happen if Morrissey had fronted Crowded House. And the atmospheric "Creep Across the Night" suggests a collision course between The Church and a hung-over Chris Isaak. But playing Spot the Influence doesn't negate the impact of Lazy Lions' own aural identity. When dreaming lets you down… overflows with sabertooth-sharp lyrical incisions and more hooks than a bait-and-tackle shop.

Every song on the band's first full-length release stands tall on its own, but together they gather even more momentum, snowballing for an intensified impact bolstered by its own internal logic. It's all part of an endangered process that musicians of another era used to refer to as making an album, not just a bunch of random tracks wandering incoherently around your iPhone. When Dreaming Lets You Down... is a complete experience in and of itself that commands your concentration from beginning to end but rewards that attention with sonic surprises at every turn.

	
People have loved comparing the difference between LA and New York for decades. Their words spill out of their dullard mouths in bars, college parties, and uninspired lunches, always missing the point. Los Angeles isn't like New York even remotely. It isn't like any other city on Earth. Life in Los Angeles is like a waking dream. The most beautiful and idealistic people on Earth mix with the cruelest and most cynical monsters imaginable. Dreams are born and celebrated while others are trampled underfoot. Somewhere between beautiful fantasy and grim reality exists DanseWolf, a new electro-rock combo who summarize the sprawling fantasyland even as they redefine it. DanseWolf's Juls D summarized the City with, “There's a certain raw energy about LA... Nobody seems to work yet everyone's working their ass off. There's a hunger in this city and living here you feed off of it.”

DanseWolf's sound is seductive and sinister but poppy and sweet at the same time. Imagine yourself in the funeral scene of Guns N' Roses' music video for "November Rain" but instead of people looking depressed they're all partying and bopping around with cute girls in little black dresses. When asked to describe which groups helped shape the bands' sound the DanseWolf crew pointed out Blondie, the Strokes, and No Doubt. The influences are immediately evident in the feel-good rock n' roll that DansWolf spurt forth like blood from their freshly gashed arteries.

The band's debut six-song EP is guaranteed to blow heads and turn some slumber parties upside down. "I Think Maybe," opens up with jangling guitars and inviting words before unleashing a barrage of sound, a high-energy wall of noise and the only way to keep from tapping your feet to is by nailing your shoes to the floor. "In LA" is a powerful yet melancholic tune describing the dizzying highs and crushing lows of living in Lala Land (LA). "Like a Ghost" slams you with guitars and drums before giving way to a soft, sad Roy Orbison style piano riff and then describing a tragic romance with someone who doesn't care.

The story of how Juls D arrived at the band's nomenclature is the stuff of legend. She dreamt that she was wandering through the long gone Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard and examined a vinyl copy of Madonna's new record. The sleeve was shiny and black with the title of her new album emblazoned in neon green, “MADONNA/DANSEWOLF.” In true LA fashion DanseWolf has literally become their dream.

Time hardly passed since golden year 1988, when lazy schoolboy Gilles Snowcat experimented with an old piano and various strange sensations to convert this & that into music. 
Throwing art into the rock, mokomoko sensations into the roll, spirit into the glass and strategies inside the muzzy no-man's land, Gilles Snowcat is (almost) proudly a living nightmare for journalists, who have to go beyond the urban legend and actually listen to the hedonistic shit to get the clues.

Jimmie Bones is best known as the blues and soul influenced roots rock and roller at the piano, organ, harmonica and backing vocals with Kid Rock and the Twisted Brown Trucker Band as well as being a solo artist, singer/songwriter who has released his solo debut ‘Snakebit and Wandering’. The songs on Snakebit and Wandering are a mix of Jimmie’s blues, soul, roots rock n roll influences poured into his driving piano and gritty vocals. Born in Detroit, Michigan Jimmie began playing piano and organ at the age of ten and immersed himself in the Blues, R & B Soul, and Rock and Roll records of Ray Charles, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf and more with focus on the piano going on in those records. As a longtime member of Kid Rock’s band, Bones’ co-writes include Cowboy, Jackson Mississippi, Black Bob, I’d Do It For You as well as Yeah Yeah Yeah, Better Days, and You Can’t Take Me from the multi platinum Uncle Kracker debut Double Wide. Bones also contributed keyboards and backing vocals throughout Double Wide notably all keyboards and backing vocals on the hit single Follow Me. Jimmie co-wrote many of the tracks as well as playing all of the keyboards on the critically acclaimed 2004 release by Mississippi blues legend R. L. Burnside titled A Bothered Mind on Fat Possum Records.

VALENTINE SHIPLEY

The Musical Journey

Born into a family very rich musical heritage Valentine got initiated into music at a very tender age of four years when he gave his first live concert in Lucknow.  Valentine is the nephew of the famous Van Shipley popularly known as “Man with Golden Guitar and magical Gypsy Violin”, who is one of the pioneers of instrumental music in India.  He draws his inspiration from varied musical traditions and his work reflects influences of greats such as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page, Van Halen, Ritchie Blackmore, J.J. Cale, Larry Carlton, B.B.King and R.D. Burman.

As a teenager at St. Xaviers School in Delhi, he was part of the famous Glee Club at the school headed by the most prolific music composer / director - Param Vir.  He has sung for various musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver, Mikado, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita etc.  At college Valentine played with various rock bands winning most of the prestigious competitions like IIT (Delhi / Kanpur), BITS Pilani’s Culfest etc.

He got a Tear Fund Scholarship on the recommendation of Sir. Cliff Richard to study Music, Communication and Radio Broadcasting at Cambridge University, U.K. While in London Val worked with the BBC and also got initiated in the Asian Underground Music Scene.  He has traveled all across Europe and played with various Pop, Rock, Ethnic, Folk and Jazz outfits. 

On his return to India, Val worked with the likes of Mr. Louis Banks and Astaad Deboo and with Grammy Award winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and also played with India’s No.1 Rock Band - Parikrama.  He has played a lot of live concerts across India and abroad including duo performances with Roshan Abbas of the Mastercard Family Fortunes, Public Demand and Breakfast with Zee fame.  He has composed, produced, directed and recorded music for the first highly successful original Indian musical “Graffiti” – Postcards from School directed and produced by Roshan Abbas and choreographed by Shiamak Davar.

Val is also the founder member of the very famous “Friends of Music”.  The only music club of its kind in this country to provide a platform to young artists for the promotion of original music and bringing together performers from various genres of music on a common platform.

Val has also composed music and background scores for numerous radio and television productions in the form of Jingles and Ttitle tracks for Mobilink, Coke, Nescafe, Mescos, Dabur, Amazer Tyres, and Gillette etc.  He has played live concerts as a Solo Artist and with his band for Cosmopolitan, India Today, BBC (live) in Birmingham and Sunrise Radio( London) ,Various Radio Stations LIVE in India, Middle East and South East Asia  He has also scored music for various documentaries and films for TV too. 

Apart from his fire brand stage presence and his style of guitar playing, Val is a major player in the Northern Indian music recording industry.

Val released his debut Instrumental album called “SHARARAT” on Times Music featuring hit songs form classic Hindi Bollywood Movies played for the first time on Acoustic, Nylon and Slide Guitar.  It is the No. 1 selling Album in India in the Instrumental Category.  It has some amazing fluid Guitar playing in Val’s inimitable style and his interpretation of these classics evergreen tunes from Bollywood. SHARARAT Vol 2, 3 & 4 in the same series has subsequently been released.

Val also released his instrumental album called ‘Memorable Ghazals of Jagjit Singh by Valentine Shipley’ on Times Music label. He has played all the hit classics of Jagjit Singh on Guitar. It is the first album of this kind in the world and has been really appreciated globally by various audiences and also by Mr. Jagjit Singh himself.


Val’s debut singing album ‘The Wandering Mystic’ released in 2005 on Times Music.
It features his fluid, bluesy style of guitar playing and open singing featuring folk songs from the mountains of Himachal, Saint Sufi Poet Kabir and couple of Latin music influenced Guitar instrumentals….. The album clearly reflects his love and passion for music specially Guitar…

Val has also played and toured with India’s leading band “Silk Route” winner of 3 Channel [V] awards.  He is also presenting live music on Subah Savere the breakfast show on Indian Television (DD1) while being the in-house music director for Riverbank Studios headed by Mr. Mike Pandey – winner of the Green Oscar for his wildlife film “The Last Migration”.  Val also co-anchored “Cool Talk Café” on DD News a DD International.  

Val also loves to work with students and young people,and started Music Academy called Valentine Shipley Academy of Music & Performing Arts in New Delhi and is also started a successful Music Academy in Nagpur teaching Guitar/Drums/Keyboards/Vocals etc... 

Val is proficient in playing various instruments like 6 and 12 string Acoustic Guitar, Keyboards, Mandolin, Drums, Slide & Bass Guitar, Tabla, Piano, Electric Lead Guitar ,Banjo, apart from having a very expressive and powerful stage and vocal presence and his inimitable style of  Guitar playing and singing 

Val is also the first Indian to be premiered on the Internet on the Eve of India’s 50th years of Independence.  His style of music ranges from Rock & Roll, Jazz, Funk, Blues, and Live remixes Jazz-Rock and contemporary Indian music.  What sets him apart from other musicians in his ability to connect with audience and his showmanship.  This ability enables him to provide a sense of familiarity to the audiences while providing the crowd 
with an entertaining experience. The musicians in Val’s Backup bands are all top of the line studio and stage folks with loads of experience

Val is also associated with various Charities,NGO’s and Foundations to work for issues he deeply feels about like Environment, AIDS awareness, Social Responsibility, Autism and Children with Special Needs in India and SEHER in Dubai (UAE) besides being a very avid Photographer

From the time I was able to understand the music I've done anything to be surrounded by good rhythm! Was the first hip-hop, pop, rock n roll ... but then came the sound that changed me and the world around me-ELECTRONIC MUSIC.After several years of wandering in the world of electronic music styles across hard at first, progressive techno later,returned to where it all started, the HOUSE MUSIC.As I said before techno had a major influence on my musical taste that is logical to me in house music lacked the techno rhythm,so that I am fully committed to Tech-House sounds!Which occur in the future, we can only wait and enjoy Tech-House!

Paul Givant was born on the fringes of Los Angeles, shaped musically and spiritually by the valleys and hills of Southern California. Drawn both to the Laurel Canyon and Bakersfield sounds, Givant’s musical career now spans genres and decades, with a deep catalog of songs which weave together elements of folk, roots, Americana and country— with an edge of punk and psychedelia. 

Throughout his music career Givant’s primary musical outlet has been as the singer and songwriter for the Americana folk-rock band Rose's Pawn Shop, which he founded in 2006 and with whom he’s released 4 studio albums, most recently Punch-Drunk Life in 2023. Paul continues to tour with the group regularly on the festival, theater, and club circuits both nationally and internationally. 

His passion for exploring different musical avenues and processing life's highs, lows and complexities through music, also led him to release his first solo record, Fashion District Adjacent, in 2018. Continuing to experiment, he formed the folk-grunge duo The Contraptionists with RPS bassist Stephen Andrews, releasing a debut record, Working Man’s Dread, in 2020.

With his newest solo record, Marigold, Givant continues his musical autobiography and the evolution of his craft. Inspired by the sounds of 1970s folk rock, Marigold is a deeply personal story of growth, awakening and the blossoming of lasting love.

Do (not) be alarmed. We are taking over your tv (head) sets. With the roaring sound of a thousand jet engines that shake rattle and roll your cornea, we want what can't be given back and take what rubble remains after the flash of your brain radiating handheld devices blinds the world within the world with a mushroom cloud. BOOM! No refuge shall be found, no remorse shall be felt. And as the dust settles we'll dance through the piercing silence, through the forever night, never wandering from the non existent path we never made.

Jonboy Nemo comes from a small town in rural Maine and plays his own brand of "Folk'n Roll," combining high-energy classics with candid originals. His songwriting draws on healthy amounts of humour and cynicism, nostalgias both whimsical and brooding, and an assortment of neuroses. He has performed solo on the guitar and mandolin from the age of sixteen, with his band the nectaroons, and in various collaborative efforts. He has appeared at various bars and street corners nationwide, along with performances at the Trapper Creek Bluegrass Festival in Trapper Creek, Alaska, and with the nectaroons at the Common Ground Country Fair and Recyclefest in Unity, Maine, and at the Green Beaver Festival and annual Fiddlehead Festival in Farmington, Maine. Nemo spent much of his youth wandering the United States, living in cars, boats, sheds, shelters, basements and tents, although he does not remember what he thought he was looking for. He settled for a time in the foothills of western Maine, where he studied philosophy and religion. He currently resides in midcoast Maine, where he moonlights as a licensed psychotherapist.
