The Von Pip Musical Express is the work of Andy Von Pip (unless otherwise stated ) and this is his incredibly moving story. . . you may need a handkerchief. . .

The Early Days

In his first flush of youth a cherubic fresh-faced young Andy fell in love with something his parents described as a ‘god awful cacophony of talentless, directionless anger’. Yes he had fallen hook line and safety pin for the musical enema that was Punk, a savage incendiary explosion that  effectively flushed away the egotistical histrionics of  becaped hippies obsessed with Arthurian legends, who regularly  produced sprit crushing self indulgent wankathons known somewhat grandly  as ‘rock operas.’  Although too young to experience the first wave of punk it inspired young Andy to form a band, dye his hair various shades of red, blue and yellow and wear a safety pin through his ear. This made his parents VERY proud.  His band the little heard, barely talented Distant Echos was built primarily around  Andy’s distinctive song writing style which could be described as “a mesmerising folly of epic proportions”. With an autistic guitarist called Simon, a drummer called Tony who was openly into cross dressing  but a closet prog rock fan, a psychotic bassist known as  “Colombia” for reasons we best not divulge here  and a keyboard player called Janie who couldn’t play but who Andy fancied so much that he actually wrote a song about her , it was not a match in heaven made. With songs such as “Self Destruct 1-2-3”, “Global Chernobyl” and Andy’s touching homage to the aforementioned Janie, “Blood Rush (When I Think Of You Girl”) allied to a sonorous vocal style that was not dissimilar to Shane MacGowan having his testicles removed with a rusty spoon,  a future in music looked  about as likely as Michael Barrymore being employed as a lifeguard. Tragically the band split after just two explosive gigs  in the time honoured tradition- over musical direction (ie/ when the music started the audience headed in the direction of the nearest exit). Simon was first to leave citing  irreconcilable  autistic differences and the rest soon followed.   However  Andy’s passion for music prevailed and he consumed music with the same sort of voracity displayed by Dawn French toward all things edible.  He became an avid gig goer and  loved the Jesus & Mary Chain and Lush above all others, but always kept on open mind with regard to all genres and musical styles ( although he never has and never will understand Queen’s status as an untouchable musical deity).  He began to write , some may say quite successfully, for a number of magazines and fanzines before tragically  retiring at the age of  just 27 on health grounds. The diagnosis looked grim, it appeared that Andy was suffering from terminal apathy.

The VPME- The Raison d’être



However some years later a great darkness fell across the musical world, and a sinister shadow was cast by a man whose bizarre oblong head was filled with avaricious intent and whose greed appeared infinite. He commenced a campaign which knew no shame in its debasement of popular culture for financial gain. It was all so easy-his ethos was simple- “there’s nowt more stupid then people” and  in no time at all he had brain washed an entire generation into believing that he somehow had a magical  insight into what constituted real musical talent. He goes by many names, none are complimentary, but you may know him by his preferred moniker- Simon Cowell. In his role as musical Dementor he was able to manufacture singers who had the uncanny ability to extract all emotion, meaning and indeed soul out of any song.

At the same time Andy had been discovering new bands via a medium known as  “the  internet”,  unearthing music which spoke to his very soul . This new breed of   musician had a D.I.Y ethic that appealed to Andy’s punk roots and he came across bands from every genre, blessed with  the sort of style and talent that would confuse and confound Cowell and his fey cackling  little leprechaun sycophant, Louis Walsh.  However Cowell knew the price of everything and the value of nothing and he could see that music being produced by people with  genuine talent, who (wait for it), wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, could threaten his insidious place of worship for  the terminally shite . His only option was to expand his poisonous tentacles into every corner of the globe, brain washing people into accepting that the bawling histrionic power ballad was the only form of musical and artistic expression that had any merit.

Andy could stand it no longer and the Von Pip Musical Express (the VPME) was born. Since its inception Andy’s humble musical organ has been voted in the BT Digital Music awards top ten music blogs and nominated in the Record of the Day Journalism and PR music awards, being named as runner up in 2009.  Andy was also a  member of ‘The BBC’s Sound Of 2010 taste-makers panel’ and has had press accreditation for numerous gigs and festivals including Liverpool Sound City , The Great Escape And Glastonbury. He is also a some time promoter in his home town of Liverpool  putting on gigs featuring some of the most exciting up and coming bands about these here parts and beyond.  The challenge still remains, to try and give great new bands a platform and to loosen Cowell’s cankerous grip on popular culture. It’s a tall order, but somebody has to try for f**ks sake. DarkComplex is unique and diverse group of talented artist ranging from Musicians/Composers, Cinematographers, Photographers, Actors/Actresses, and a wide range of other specialties. We are a project thus we do have both static and dynamic members. We write, compose and produce music videos, short films.    Or mission, To create and to produce audio/visual art through collaborative expression and learn from each experience. To invoke and emotional response through our art while simultaneously providing a message.   As of Fall 2012 we are shooting the first in a serious of videos for the songs associated with the DarkComplex CD. Not all songs will have a video component, but the full catalog does tell a complete story from end to end. It is a story of a single  young female character who grows up in a dysfunctional and emotionally traumatic household.  She ends up embracing her dark side and becomes a character of duality.  She is involved in drug use, redirected abuse towards men as a result of her antagonistic Father.  We follow her as she wanders through a fog filled with Anger, sadness, rejection and abuse.  Without providing any form of spoiler for our over all concept, None of the videos or the series end the way you expect them to.  The second CD that is current in production already has several video concepts attached to it.  Blink of an Eye is actually a much darker concept and will involve a range of additional characters.  Again None of these are Rock or POP songs. Every intention and motivation all along has been to write simplistic ambient soundtrack music to be associated with video production.  Yes I have a fair number of other actual Songs I have written that range from Rock, POP, retro and Techno and these are not similar to what i have posted on sound cloud.  Eventually I may post those but I am more focused on the current set of projects at the moment.  Our Group is Dynamic , fluid and expanding at the moment.  If any single word could be used to describe our production process it would be luck. We always seem to get the exact resources we need , just in time , including props , equipment, talent and arrangement........ Go figure. That will probably not always be true to we are very serious about taking advantage of it while it exists! 

Splitzer is an underground artist looking to get big and noticed in the music scene. He first started to write bars at the early age of just ten years old. What got him to write bars was the so solid crew, he used to listen to them alot when he was a younger and he liked the way how they spat so he wanted to do the same thing, they were his idols. But even though he was writng bars after
bars he never took that much interest of it until he reached eighteen years old and took more interest of his bars. What made him do it was because he used to spit infront of family and friends and he got good views such as "your quite good you know". so from then he wanted to start making his own tunes and thats what he is doing now. If he gets signed or not he aint bothered because he knows his got real talent. The Departed's new record, 'Steal The Crown', takes the ferocity and energy of such legendary hardcore bands as Bane, Casey Jones, Champion and Comeback Kid, infusing them with the kind of catchy hooks, instantly-recognisable choruses and soaring vocal melodies which give bands such as Stick To Your Guns such memorable appeal, maintaining the constant anger and aggression that makes for a classic hardcore album, all whilst bringing a fresh, modern twist to the sound of melodic hc.

The Departed have been an established force within the UK hardcore scene for a number of years now, touring relentlessly, and working hard to cement our status as one of the most exciting bands in the genre to watch in a live setting. We are no strangers to long hauls on the road, having completed 5 full European tours, and over 10 UK excursions within the last 3 years, with plans for bigger and better things on the horizon!

Resonating through the comic express highway straight from Nitriles located in the Cyanide Radicle nebular on the edge of this dimension (between interstellar space & the psychedelically charged rim of the galactic space cowboy federation) Psyanyd (who at this point in time was referred to as 'Al') escaped the grasps of the evil Nitrilites (Known for their passionate love of Electro house & 80's Madonna Pop) only to find that he had been exposed to and infected by certain interstellar bacteria, fungi, and algae that are found in a number of plants. Not sure of what exactly what he had been infected by he roamed the cosmos searching from answers in deep dark corners of the universe. It was not until he stumbled across a small green and blue planet that had been swept under the cosmic carpet that he found out about this strange phenomenon referred to as 'music'. Crash landing his ship straight into the side of two large towers due to a miscalculation in flight path, caused by the combination a large green lady holding a flaming lantern who didn't move out of the way (even though she was facing him) and his first ever exposure to bass and kick drums from earth radio, was when Psyanyd took on his human form. Over the next 2 years Psyanyd drifted between consciousness and comatosed states in his recovery from his crash. Hearing rambling theories of government conspiracies & talks of war & fighting from a strange box that seemed to be bolted to the roof of his hospital room made Psyanyd feel un-easy and responsible for the anger & hatred being spread around the world from the accidental crash of his ship into the twin towers. Trying to communicate through music to his new found race of pink beings, that he had in fact crashed his ship and no one else was at fault and they should all be friends was not as successful as he would have liked. People began to jump and move and pull faces that had never been seen on this cosmic rock, having fun & partying like animals but ultimately not hearing his message. Still today Psyanyd tries to spread his message of peace happiness & love through music, and still people just jump around and dance and give him hi-fives, it seems almost like they don't care about what he's really trying to say..... Damn Humans!

Mentallo and the Fixer is the industrial brainchild of two brothers from Texas, Gary and Dwayne Dassing. Mentallo and the Fixer derived its name from a pair of comic book characters whose origins have long since faded into obscurity.The Dassing brothers were raised on rock music, so their first instruments were actually the guitar (Dwayne) and drums (Gary). However, this changed when the pair discovered a number of new wave bands whose music was heavily saturated with synthesizers. Dwayne specifically lists the Cars, early Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark, and especially Gary Numan as strong influences to Mentallo and the Fixer.   Around 1984, the brothers began acquiring synthesizers, discovering the inherent sonic possibilities that these instruments allowed. They began to experiment with these instruments, with recording techniques, and even rudimentary sampling with taped based equipment.   In 1988, the brothers added vocalist Rich Mendez to their roster, and adopted the name Benestrophe. They made two tapes as Benestrophe using only a 12-channel mixer and a $100 stereo TEAC tape deck (incidentally the same equipment used for the first Mentallo release), and surprised even themselves with its sound quality. Much of these tapes are now available on Benestrophe's "Sensory Deprivation" CD and "Auric Fires" (RAS DVA). Benestrophe ended in 1990 when the Dassings moved to another part of the state, and then began their work as Mentallo and the Fixer. A DAT tape of "No Rest for the Wicked" was sent to Portugal's Simbiose Records, and was released on vinyl in a limited edition of 500. (It was re-issued on CD by Metropolis in 1998 as a double CD with additional unreleased tracks and remixes.) A subsequent tape was sent to Talla 2XLC of Zoth Ommog fame, who signed the band to a three-record deal within two weeks.   Though actually their second album, "Revelations 23" was their first proper release, and gained the attention of Metropolis Records, who began their long association with Mentallo and the Fixer with this masterpiece. Like its predecessor, "Revelations 23" was filled with anger: snarling distorted vocals, hard cutting sequencer rhythms, and a thunderous beat. Their next CD, "Where Angels Fear to Tread", displayed considerably less rage than their previous work. The CD showed tremendous musical growth and artistic maturity, being very complex and emotional, with dark Gothic overtones. The CD was met with almost universal acclaim.   In 1994, the Dassings joined forces with vocalist Michael Greene to create the trio Mainesthai, releasing "Out to Lunch" and "Mentallo Meets Mainesthai", which was more melodic and humanistic than Mentallo. Both were released in 1998. 1996 saw Mentallo's first national tour, which was met with rave reviews by both critics and audiences alike. Following this tour, Mentallo and the Fixer began on their next album, "Burnt Beyond Recognition", which was released in 1997. In addition to the album, Gary and Dwayne put together two singles for "Burnt Beyond Recognition", called "Centuries" and "False Prophets".   1999 saw the departure of Dwayne from Mentallo and the Fixer. Gary continued on his own, with the release of the "Systematik Ruin" single and the "Algorythum" full length CD. Gary's vision for this release was different from his previous work, with the incorporation of live drumming, a more experimental approach to electronics, and a more positive outlook on the state of things. Gary quickly returned in 2000 with another Mentallo and the Fixer album, called "Love is the Law" Following in the same vein as the previous release, "Love is the Law" was yet another endeavor into the more experimental and avant-garde style of electronic music. In 2001, Mentallo release "Return To Grimpen Ward", an anthology which featured fourteen re-mixed and re-recorded tracks that spanned over the first ten years of the band's career. That same year, M&TF returned with yet another new studio album, the ominious "Vengeance Is Mine". Heralded as a return to form for Gary Dassing, it fused several elements from all of the previous releases, while at the same time showcasing an artist who was sticking to his guns during a time when dance-oriented club music was all the rave. Shortly after "Vengeance Is Mine" was released, Gary fell just below the radar...but he was not sitting silent. This industrial icon was slaving away at new Mentallo & The Fixer tracks for four years to prepare for his newest sonic achievement: "Enlightenment through a Chemical Catalyst". Teaming up with the up-and-coming Static Sky Records in 2004 (and at last being united on a label with his longtime friends Fektion Fekler!), Gary Dassing would finally return to his long-waiting fans. Most currently, Gary has been busy with new work to be released in the fall of 2011 or spring 2012. The cast is in search of Kramer's car in the multi-level parking garage of a shopping mall in New Jersey after Kramer purchases an air conditioner. Unfortunately, no one can remember where the car was parked. After carrying the air conditioner for some time, an exhausted Kramer decides to leave it behind one of the parked cars and tries to memorize the number of the parking space. Elaine fears that her new goldfish will die in the airtight bag before they can arrive home, while George must meet his parents by 6:15 to take them out to celebrate their anniversary. Also, Jerry has to go to the bathroom badly. While the gang searches for the car, Elaine desperately begs people in the parking garage to give them a ride around the building to find their car, but no one is willing to help or has any sympathy for the goldfish. One of the indifferent men that she begs is Larry Charles, a staff writer on Seinfeld. Jerry desperately needs to urinate. Kramer badgers Jerry to do it in some dark corner where no one can see him. After Jerry reluctantly does so, he is spotted by a security guard and is taken to the guard's office. Jerry tries to talk his way out of trouble by making up a story about a fictional disease of "uromysitisis", but the guard is not convinced; Jerry makes up some other stories, but the guard is still not buying it. Meanwhile, Kramer, Elaine and George wonder where Jerry is - George moans, "Unbelievable, I'm never gonna get out of here. The guy goes to pee, he never comes back. It's like a science fiction story." Elaine goes off on her own to find him; Kramer and George decide to do the same. Later, George also gets caught in the act of urinating, after being convinced to do so by Kramer. Both Jerry and George are fined and released. After the two find Elaine, Jerry convinces George to ask an attractive woman, whom they saw earlier in the episode, to give them a lift around the garage. The woman (Cynthia Ettinger) accepts without hesitation, and the gang all enter the woman's car and drive off. Moments later, the woman kicks them out after George says something to the woman that makes her explode in anger (the viewer is not told exactly what George said to the woman, but it involves L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology). Ironically, the gang is dropped off right by Kramer's car but unfortunately, Kramer, who has the car keys, is still lost somewhere in the garage. Hours pass by as George, Jerry and Elaine wait. Finally, Kramer shows up, having gone on his own hunt for the air conditioner because he forgot where he left it. Elaine's goldfish did not survive and George is well past the time deadline to meet his parents. Once they are all in the car, the engine fails to start.
