Jonas Rathsman announces his latest offering with cutting-edge innovators Crosstown Rebels. ‘Complex’ featuring Josef Salvat is released on 10th June 2016.

This is a tech-blues odyssey, an introverts primal scream, where complex emotions and urges are vented and perfectly complemented by Rathsman’s explorations into the dark corners of electronic music. Enjoy the journey. With the release only in the hands of a select few tastemaker DJs, ‘Complex’ has been making waves at the recent Miami Winter Music Conference, “receiving hands in the air welcomes and even a sit down ovation” according to label boss Damian Lazarus. ‘Complex’ is set to be the first underground anthem of 2016.

The release comes with two carefully chosen remixes. First up is Swiss techno stalwart Deetron, who steers the song into percussive acid oblivion while Serge Devant offers up his deep house expertise for a dramatic and driving offbeat cut.

With his instantly recognisable sound, Jonas has found praise the world over for his keen ear and transcendent sets, which have captivated listeners on both the international club and festival scenes.

Following his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, Rathsman continues to showcase his technical capabilities and impressive track selection with his bi-monthly mix series ‘ELEMENTS’, now on its fourth instalment.

Following on from her critically acclaimed album ‘SoMe’ comes a trio of remixes that represent the different shades of Anja Schneider’s new Sous Music imprint. 

Butch is a long-time friend and respected colleague of Anja’s and championed ‘All I See’ from early on, begging her for a copy after seeing her play it at Street Parade. His re-work felt fated, but that didn’t mean it was easy. “I know it was a difficult one for him to do. We didn’t expect the track to be such a huge hit, so I was very interested to see what he’d do. He’s done an amazing job!” she buzzes. Butch delivers an inspired off-kilter minimal house interpretation, that’s heavy on mood without losing the spirit of her original.

Martyn releases new album ‘Voids’, his first for Ostgut Ton

‘Voids’ is in a few ways markedly different than previous Martyn records; it features no guest appearances or collaborations and at 9 tracks, is musically stripped down to the essentials. It’s also a highly personal take on forging new paths forward in genres where the Berghain/Panorama Bar resident has long been known for his production wizardry and innovation: post-dubstep and UK garage.

The LP is roughly split between these musical foundations, recontextualized with elements of Nyabinghi, drum ‘n‘ bass, and gqom to form snarling, bass-driven hybrids. The direction was hinted at last November on his ‘GL Outtakes’ – reworks of his landmark 2009 album ‘Great Lengths’. In contrast however, ‘Voids’ is also an attempt to work through personal trauma and loss, including recovering from a heart attack and dealing with the passing of close friend and fellow producer Marcus Intalex aka Trevino, to whom the track “Manchester” is dedicated.

The sound of ‘Voids’ is big and unapologetically rough around the edges. It is music as therapy, drawing on the healing elements of music past, but is far from retrospective. Indeed, Martyn is no stranger to electronic futurism, as his numerous solo productions for Ostgut Ton, Dolly, Hyperdub, Brainfeeder, Ninja Tune, Warp and his own 3024 label (run together with visual collaborator Jeroen Erosie) have shown. On ‘Voids’, however, these futuristic sonic qualities coalesce into something darker, more biographical and untethered from expectations.

Parisian DJ and producer Armless Kid joins Radio Slave’s Rekids this June with five smooth house cuts.

Armless Kid started his career in Paris’ house circuit with respected collectives like La Chinerie and Copie Blanche. Having released on the Copie Blanche label, Hustler Trax, FINA and Classic Music Company, he’s received regular support from names like DJ Harvey, Karizma, The Black Madonna, Voyeur and Fred Everything to name a few.

Kicking off the package, ‘Troiséme Actre’ mixes warm pads, cosmic synths and rattling organic percussion before the up-tempo ‘Abdos Fesier’ delivers infectious two-step drums and scintillating chord stabs. ‘Jojo On The Moon’ is next with its compelling groove complete with an amalgamation of crisp snares and clean disco vocals until ‘Air’ combines thumping kicks with a pulsating sub and mesmerising atmospheres. Finally, ‘This Generation’ utilizes a shuffling rhythm with a trippy spoken word vocal to round off the release.

Vakabular - Endless EP [Suffused Music, SMD229]

Returning to Suffused Music for the label’s 229th release, Vakabular creates an “Endless” flow of music with three tracks of the highest quality.

Home to the “Full Moon Party” on Thailand’s south east coast, Vakabular has made a name for himself from his Koh Pha-ngan island home. With a renowned party culture running across the island’s beaches, Vakabular has regularly performed in front of packed club audiences at events including “Waterfall” and 360 Rooftop”, seeing his music consistently met with club approval. Curator of the successful “Hollystone Podcast Series” and Hollystone Records, the Thai producer has continually impressed with over a century of production credits to his name.

A regular on the likes of Krafted Records and Outta Limits, the six-track, “Floor Damage” EP for the Stan Kolev and Matan Caspi owned imprint was a worthy addition to the label. Making his debut for Suffused Music in February 2018, the twin-track “Quarantine” EP marked an impressive debut, while a remix of Dimuth K in September 2018 saw Vakabular produce an innovative interpretation of “Souq”.

As Vakabular returns to Suffused Music the triptych title track sees “Endless” characterised by driving techno beat and metronomic bassline. Building effortlessly, the addition of white-noise and pitched analogue effects paves the way for a vocal sample to find its way into the mix at the mid-point, before the pace picks up once again in the third movement. Rhythm and melody thus combine to create a dynamic dancefloor stormer.

Keeping the same energy, derived from chest-thumping kick and running bassline, “Star Gate” reveals a chorus of delay-panned synth effects and mesmeric arpeggio. Changing character at the mid-point a TB-303 style line makes a play across the mid-range, building to a satisfying denouement before returning to earlier rhythm and melody combination in the track’s second half.

The final track sees a subtle shift in character as a bouncing groove is found in “Desire” via intelligently placed bassline and percussive combination. A smooth melodic sequence is gradually revealed and supplies an absorbing freeform pattern that coruscates across the mid-range in fluid analogue phrasing. Full of clever pitched tape-delays, the track waxes and wanes in impressive fashion.

A new three-track EP from the mind of Vakabular sees a continued, “Endless” flow of success.

After a year spearheading some incredible releases as the A&R brain behind the Conspiracy Crew, Nate S.U returns for a victory lap on home turf with CON009. Although ‘home’ isn’t necessarily the right word, no, instead Foreigner sees Nate look deep into his crystal ball to sonically illustrate tales from foreign lands of fancy. With a soundscape that shows incredible progression from his last offering on Conspiracy, he dives into a racy slew of tunes that are certainly not of this planet.

Opening the floor, Coco demands attention with a driving kick-snare pattern and a swampy bass, before Nate’s signature technical percussion and an eery riser deliver the listener straight to the doorstop of a veritable haunted mansion plucked straight from his own mind. Beckoning victims in with whispers and finely-chopped vocals, the tune literally slams its door, trapping you inside a twisted, tumbling and all-the-while grooving mess that simply couldn’t be produced cleaner.



One part dream, one part nightmare, Signs Of Slowing shows anything but – employing glitchy highs and scattered hits to ring in the hero track of the EP, before sealing the deal with a pumping hat groove. Abandoning the demonic vocals of Coco and welcoming a softer, feminine touch to narrate a scene of war, the track pits delicate pixie-like vocals and shimmering chimes against the whomping, acidic-flavoured bass that strives to consume all it encounters – fortunately it’s restrained by one hell of a percussive pocket laid down by S.U

The title track itself is a number for the house heads: the raw ensemble keeps things fast with a low-down swinging bass line and glimmering stab that pulls the listener out of their trance-like state and places them in a space reminiscent of the Chicago club but warped by S.U’s signature minimal flair. The rave-inspired romp continues to delight as it drops through the floor of the club and into a cavernous breakdown of trickling synths, falling to meet a low rumbling bass that proceeds to rise back from the depths in a rapturous fashion. It’s the sort of tune that’s sure to leave dance floors begging it be played start to finish.
