Tomorrow Is A Long Time (Outtake - Bob Dylan)

It's a trippy new mix of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and "Can You Take Me Back" by those lovable scouser mop heads. The tiny road in the image is where I live (in Western Japan) currently. The steak house sign in the background is from where I grew up (north of Boston). The restaurant was built about two years before The Beatles landed in the USA. I was a toddler who listened to them from way back (a few months prior to their invasion).

Driving Me Mad

Imagine if PiL in its original 1978-79 lineup (Jah Wobble, John Lydon, Keith Levene) regrouped just to mash up old pop tones (for some mysterious reason). The result might sound something like this, a mashup of Beatles vs Stones vs Bowie vs Queen doing “Tomorrow Never Knows.” 

John Lennon's song lyrics were taken from lines in a book based on old Tibetan Buddhist teachings having to do with optimizing the dying moment in order to ensure an auspicious rebirth. Beatle John got the book in Indica’s shop. “Lennon said he bought the book, went home, took LSD, and followed the instructions exactly as stated in the text. The book held that the ‘ego death’ experienced under the influence of LSD and other psychedelic drugs is essentially similar to the dying process and requires similar guidance.”

There's lots of A-arising-from-B formulations in Buddhism. Practitioners commonly say that the cause of death is birth. For ultimate causes I guess we'd have to go as far back as the big bang. Everything arises from something. This kind of talk isn't considered morbid (in its usual negative connotation). These truths are just part of living. The topic is handled in a practical, matter of fact way even though all sorts of strong feelings do of course come up when we think about death and dying. Raising the topic of death becomes normal (and anyone can get used to noting the feelings that arise associated with it without having to dwell on them), and eventually no more a cause for stress than talking about anything else in nature. We reflect: like all living things, "I am of the nature to die."

In that spirit, labeling this mashup "Death Disco Mix" is a kind of celebration of our nature. Also it's a PiL reference.
