A collection of some of my more favourite original recordings - the first few are older, from around 2001, and everything else is from after 2022. I'm not sure how to characterize some of the tracks - there's an unusually wide range of different styles, including jazz, funk, electronic, blues, classical, worlbeat, ambient, experimental, and more. It's however You express yourself and everyone is on this list because that's what they do. They express THEIR feelings in THEIR own way. We need to lift this list of musical martial artists in my pea head opinion. No AI can ever make the love that's made here because AI can't feel for us it can only guess our feelings and that's why all the guesses lack any feelings. We make feelings because controlled feelings take actual intelligence and actual real refections

This is basically a repeating chorus, which is pretty catchy, but I’d love to eventually compose the rest of this tune, and have it played by jazz musicians with live instruments one day. mark music medley (top 10 tidbits -oldies)

'Jazzy Ditty' (https://soundcloud.com/user-432503709/jazzy-ditty-new-med?in=user-432503709/sets/album-the-goods) is one of my earliest and favourite jazz tracks, which I keep revisiting and trying different things with. In this slowed down version, the opening and closing piano parts are the main chorus theme, and in the middle I tried throwing in another older track - 'Belle Curves Blues'.

Jazzy Ditty / Belle Curves Blues (slow, extended version)

one of my favourite tracks from the older batch written around early 2001. Or at least it was a favourite for about 20 years until I started writing new stuff in 2022. The violin solo near the beginning is one of my favourite bits I've recorded, but the middle section could use some work since I don't play guitar - everything on this is played on keyboard. I'd love one day re-do this with better sound quality, or even with real violin and guitar.

Aulde Europe

This was one of my earliest compositions - from around 2001 - of what I would consider a 'full' song... i.e. not the usual recording of me noodling on a part to build on later and never finishing. The main chorus & verse theme are pretty straightforward and remind me a little of the 'Winter Games' theme by David Foster. But the bridge section in the middle and especially the arpeggio in the closing section are something quite different... arguably my favourite minute or so of anything I've recorded.

The Last Days Of November

As I've started doing lately, this is a short excerpt, focusing on just the closing section of a full piano tune I recorded around 2001. The approach kind of reminds of the ending of "Crime Of The Century" by Supertramp (obviously nowhere near as interesting). Apologies for the poor recording quality, and the piano sound wasn't the greatest back then. Still, this little 1-minute closing section is still one of my favourite things I've recorded.

Last Days of November (EXCERPT - ENDING)

This is just a short sample of a blending test of the cool sounds on the mellotron instrument I use in GarageBand. If you’re not familiar with how a real mellotron works, it’s worth checking it out! Here's a very informative demo:

The acoustic guitar is played using a VST guitar on keyboard.

mellotron choir (SOUND DEMO)

Ever since I saw an incredible Canadian band (Recipe From a Small Planet) do a live Reggae jam and seamlessly slide into a cover of 'Watching The Detectives', I wanted to try something similar. In this case, I did the opposite, starting with the cover, and adding a kinda reggae/dub section at the end, which starts at 3:15. 

For the dub portion, I enlisted the help of one of the best talents I know - @Llanpsych (Tez) - to add his magic and 'dubbify' the whole instrumental section at the end. I'm singing and playing all the instruments here using my keyboard, and some echo effects, and Tez did the rest to produce that authentic dub atmosphere into the mix. I recommend listening to that part at least with headphones, and hope you enjoy the result! Thanks so much Tez, I couldn't have done this without your mad skillz!

Sharp ears may notice the following 2 details: 

  -  In the last few seconds, I threw in the theme from 'The Godfather', played on melodica (see credit below). 

  -  at 0:39, you can faintly hear my dog barking in the background. I decided to keep it in, since she barked at the line, "red dogs under illegal legs", which I thought was funny timing!  :)

The Come Up

This tune began with just the upright bass & flute part that were inspired by an old song that I liked a lot by an English Jazz trio called The Herbaliser. Beyond the basic A - B - A arrangement I couldn't really think of much else to do with it, so I enlisted a couple blokes from the Eclectic Collective to help flesh it out. Namely Stephen (@texmex-shaman), and Chris (@hiddenhands-760647700).

Stephen added the trippy high pitch reverse guitar effect, and the sick bluesy lead guitar in the middle section (thus the title, Blue In The Middle). He also lent his mastering skills to great effect on this one. And Chris added some delightfully dark atmospheric backing guitar parts and effects, as well as the Portishead influenced drum track. I was then inspired to add the background echo guitar sound in the middle section, the vocal sample near the end, a bit of percussion and minor sound effects. All my parts were played on keyboard except the vocal sample (from Garageband) and the flute, which I played live. 
Thanks guys for bringing this to life, and hope folks enjoy this trippy little ditty.

Another attempt at a Rory Gallagher song from his first album. Not one of his better know songs but a classic and the original is well worth a listen. This is a shorter version as the original is over 7 minute long.

Can't Believe it's True (Rory Gallagher Cover)

This one's pretty typical of how I tend to compose music - I often create a drum beat I like, then add a bass and build around that. The main inspiration for this ditty was basically to play to a less common time signature, in this case a 7/8 rhythm. That reminded me of the funny 'yes, but yellow' meme circulating out there on the internet, so I whipped up this quick image in Photoshop to go with it (note the yellow slice is 1 eighth of the pie).  😊

I'm playing all instruments here on keyboard, except the slide guitar (dobro?), which is made up of several short loops in Garageband, sliced up to fit the 7/8 pattern I wanted)

The Swedish Paradox

     Howdy everyone and I hope everyone had a great Labor Day, without laboring of course!😂 This is another of my instrumentals, which actually had lyrics but the vocals were not recorded too well so I made it into an instrumental. It's about having that Las Vegas experience which I'm sure nobody can afford anymore with this economy unless you're a billionaire! I've been to Vegas many times and most times I've lost, hence the title "Lost Wages"! I'm not a gambler, so when I lose a couple of hundred dollars I start sweating profusely!!😂 It's a fast paced song and I played like a boogie-woogie synthesizer on it and a rock guitar. Charlie played a groovy harmonica on it too! I've decided to drop an instrumental and a cover song every month from now on besides my normal songs and videos.      The video was a lot of fun to put together and it's all about Las Vegas, the gambling, the show girls, the drinking, the excesses, pretty decadent stuff! There's is a lot of eye-candy here for the grown-ups to enjoy! It drops tomorrow on YouTube! The original song with lyrics was called "My Neck Of The Woods" so if Charlie and I rerecord the vocals, I'll make a video of it as well. I hope everyone enjoys this song and video and remember, don't gamble unless you can afford to lose a ton of money and are rich because it is an addiction! Last time we went to Las Vegas, back before the pandemic, it was for about a week and all we saw were the shows and never gambled, that was my favorite trip because I didn't lose a dime! Round and round

 I wrote this song after a trip to Shady Hallow Lake in Indiana. Charlie has some lake front property there and it's great for camping, fishing, roasting marshmallows and playing live concerts. It's very calm and relaxing and a great time was had by all! I wrote the song back in 2010 but the video I put together last year. Check out the video and you will be there with me:

I tried to keep the video as true to the lyrics as I could. It was a lot of fun putting it together. I love the tranquility of a full moon casting the silvery glow over the lake! It's very magical! I especially love the fact that there were no I-phones, computers, TV's, ect, ect. No distractions, everything was left in the car! Times like those really heal a person. It was spiritually rejuvenating!  Charlie sang the song very well but my harms were a little flat (like my head!😂, sorry about that!). It was a very cool experience for me and my wife and we got to do some jamming by the fireside on the lake too! Well, I hope everyone enjoys it and thanks for dropping by and listening! That is always appreciated! Summer will be gone soon so for now, let's just bask under the glow of an Indiana Moon!! 🌕🙏✌🏼

This song began in Artur's jam room at his house, where he creates all of his amazing music on his Fender Jaguar, which is perfect for the surf sound, at which he's a master. He shared it with Josh, who shared it with the group.
 
  Before Josh could lay down a bass part to it, though, JJ came up with his elegantly moody synth and laid it down.
