Flying in, direct from the left field is our latest premiere, Kimura by Views aka Tape Archive head honcho Atilla Fidan. Kimura, taken from the Kyoto EP, is the latest forthcoming release off of Onirik’s imprint Garage Hermétique. 
If you’ve been following the blog for a time, you may hear quite a few similarities to some of the tracks featured in the Future Sounds of Jazz Compilation, that came out at the tail end of 2018. These similarities bode well for Views, as the track in itself is a groovy one. With an infectious bass line that drives you to move and pockets of melody sprinkled throughout, Kimura serves up that energetic feeling some crave albeit in a way that’s none too brash or full of bravado. A feeling that while almost melancholic at times, still maintains an air of optimism. 
The rest of Views’ Kyoto EP will be out soon on May 13th in record shops such as Yoyaku, and Microsolchi.

Dust-e-1 - The Cosmic Dust EP

Lawrence and his label, Dial Music, are no strangers to the speakers of the Fiction Lab: his delicate minimalistic aesthetic has been delighting us on many occasions.  When we heard he was remixing Truby Trio's Universal Love, we were immediately intrigued: how would this funky, groovy and upbeat original be morphed into a Lawrence track. Well, if we had to visualize the creative process, we'd guess that Lawrence was swimming underwater as the original track was playing on the beach when he got his idea for the remix.  Have you ever heard music under water?  The bass gets more prominent but also thump-y and muted.  The highs don’t do well in the water and get filtered out or recede into the background, overpowered by the thump of the bass.  The melodic mids acquire a sense of mystery and smoothness in their flow, but also a sense of distance.  And so it goes with this remix: its bass is prominent, its highs are nothing but gentle flutters, its melody is muted and aquatic sounding.  The energy and drive are dialed (get it? Lawrence? Dial Music?) down and a funky booty shaker of an original gets submerged into Lawrence's ocean to produce a sequence of meditative, delicate melodic phrases that float in and out at will, propelled forward by bass which is the part that most closely anchors (aquatic puns anyone?) the remix to the original.

Under the alias of Carsten Jost hides none other than David Lieske, co-founder of the seminal deep-house bastion that is Dial Records. A native of the red-brick-dressed Hamburg, David couldn’t have wished for a better school than Germany’s best-known disco-chalet, i.e. the mighty Golden Pudel, where he and longtime partner in crime Lawrence would get to decisively forge their unique sensibility whilst learning the ins and outs of DJing.

As a master of the decks, Carsten Jost covers a wide span of hypnotic house music as much as he enjoys traversing more nuanced spectrums of leftfield electronics and further melancholy-drenched ambient. If the majority of his productions were originally issued back in the early two-thousands, 2017 marked an important milestone in David’s own artistic career with the release of his second album, ‘Perishable Tactics‘, featuring material new and old, including some previously released tracks from his ‘Atlantis’ EP as well as his timeless classic, ‘Love’, originally part of a 2007-issued split 12″ alongside Efdemin.

Within two decades of faultless curation and body-and-soul dedication to their craft, it’s safe to say Dial has become one of the most dependable and respected record labels in the world of electronic music, laying the foundations to a sound catalogue unlike anything else, and which very few out there could ever boast bringing to life: Efdemin, John Roberts, Pantha Du Prince, Roman Flügel, Portable, DJ Richard, Christian Naujoks, James K… the list is long.

And so goes the list of key clubs and events David has graced over the years, with past performances at Zur Klappe, Paloma Bar, Griessmuehle, ://about blank, Panorama Bar, Public Records in New York, REX Club in Paris, Golden Pudel and PAL in Hamburg, JAX in Amsterdam, Jaeger in Oslo, Oval Space and Corsica Studios in London.
