"The influence and presence of trap and rap in dance/experimental is obviously massive, and the lines between genres are more blurred than ever. HAJJ, however, says this is a recent thing; “I find that the electronic scene in France is just starting to encourage the integration of this culture. Not so long ago people insulted me when I played rap/trap in my sets.”

The underpinning idea for this compilation brought electronic producers not explicitly of that world to unpick whatever boundaries remain and contribute tracks for a mixtape – while a few of the artists are more obviously ready to “play the game” and already make music which exists pretty close to this horizon, this has been a challenge to think creatively for a few of the other artists invited."

Ice_Eyes ‘Age of Collectivity’ STRP Festival 2021 x Post Neon

Radio Benska is a show focused on Eastern Europe and the US Midwest. It operates at the peripheries of cultural power, celebrating artist who survive their environments.

This month’s episode is fully dedicated to @rapidantics (https://rapidantics.bandcamp.com/). There's something brewing in Moscow. Lovingly draped around the label ПИР(https://peer.moscow/), artists like @uzhok, @moapillar, @sozorieone, @uruncia, @funkshn, @ccntrr and @wulffluw94 chart new perspectives on familiar sounds. Familiar In the way that dreams are familiar: when oily waves freeze into valleys and shiver into peaks. 

The label's third release, Rapid Antics, is mysteriously effacing. His rhythms don't shake, they helicopter. A thought I have while listening, so common it's become a refrain, is: "how does this work?" So, it is an honor to hear what inspires Rapid Antics. The mix is introduced with some sounds I recorded in LA.

The 15th release of katharsis is the EP “Otra Vida” by Serbian artist Cuban Chamber of Commerce. Spanning four tracks, the EP portrays the gloomiest corners of your subconscious emotional landscape by blending ghostly pads and eerie sound effects with a deep reverberating bass. But even though the atmosphere is filled with tension and has a high chance of provoking goosebumps, the EP has a mysteriously hopeful and embracing quality to it.

“Otra Vida” is quite a deviation from the artist’s former releases, as his earlier works are more bass-driven and dancefloor-oriented. With two successful releases under his belt, respectively on Molten Moods and his own label kepasaparadoks, the artist now seeks to explore new sonic territories by putting emphasis on textures, atmosphere and field recordings instead of complex high-tempo drum patterns. As hinted in the title, “Otra Vida” carries a message of the different and unknown, which is well carried through to the listener by the ghostly mood of the EP.
