Although it is close to Sydney, Wollemi National Park protects an area of wilderness which is relatively unexplored. This is an early morning recording on a warm summer day.

A wonderfully soothing mid-morning soundscape recorded at Lost Maples State Natural Area near Vanderpool, Texas. 9:30am, 7 March 2017.

Features the gurgling of the Sabinal River and the sounds of various birds, including the downward-cascading whistles of Canyon Wren, the complex songs of Bewick's Wren, and the low coos of White-tipped Dove.

Recorded using a binaural microphone setup.

Softened by distance and muted by the intervening dunes, surf is heard from afar, rolling in on a broad, sandy beach.

This recording, like its companion 'Atmospheres' titles, is very spacious and unchanging. It is primarily recommended for background listening, and is best played quietly. It may especially be appropriate for those managing the symptoms of tinnitus, as it features a steady 'white noise' soundscape.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM:
“Sketches” is a fully improvised solo piano album.  Several of the songs were completely improvised during the recording process for this album and several were inspired by my “Monday Morning Improvisations” series on YouTube.  This was a very challenging album project for me and it was a lot of fun improvising and writing songs on the fly for this album.  It was also fun to relearn some of the previous improvisations and let those evolve during recording.  I hope you enjoy the music on this album as it comes from my inner well of creativity and straight from the heart.  

My “Monday Morning Improvisations” series is a collection of improvs that are recorded “first try, first take”, where I record and release an improvisation on the spot every week.  The entire collection of “Monday Morning Improvisations” can be found on the Michele McLaughlin YouTube channel.
