Sean Rosch aka Big Rush is a 34 year old rapper from Albany, NY. Rush has been rapping for 12 plus years and has released 8 full length projects to date. Anyone who ever has listened to Big Rush rap says he has what it takes to make it big, for real. He is a veteran emcee who pays homage to true hip hop roots with top notch, lyrical yet polished wordplay. His smooth yet intricate flow captivates both underground and mainstream audiences painting a gritty picture of pain, hardwork and redemption. 
Rush, also a graduate of Bryant University, Business Admin. concentration marketing as well as a project manager for his father's construction company has shared the stage with almost every big hip hop industry name. In 2011 Big Rush won 1st place in dance BillBoard chart topping hit singer Kwanza Jones's TalentHouse rap contest and was flown to LA to record with her in Will Smith's studio, the Boom Boom Room with grammy nominated engineer Luke Tozour. In 2013 Rush placed in the top 15 entries out of almost 1500 in RA the Rugged Man's Definition of a Rap Flow contest. 
Living in Providence, RI for 11 years and Connecticut for 4 years Rush took the local New England hip hop scene by storm eventually promoting his own shows for himself along with other A1 local artists. Rush had several articles written about him in the Providence Phoenix and was nominated by the Phoenix for "Best Hip Hop Act" from 2011 - 2013 never taking the gold home. Life is short, and Nathan Oliver is not going to spend it waiting.

After 15 years and three albums of brilliantly crooked rock, this onetime bedroom project of band namesake Nathan Oliver has quietly grown into one of the best kept secrets of the North Carolina music scene. And now with their fourth album, Thank You For Your Generosity, the Chapel Hill three-piece has returned with a journey through grief that is by turns contemplative, explosive and — because it’s still a Nathan Oliver record — fun as hell. As with prior outings, Thank You showcases Oliver’s catchy, pop-forward songcraft in the vein of Alvvays and The Love Language, though cut from a slightly more ragged cloth. Still present are his irresistible shout-along choruses and burrow-in-your-brain guitar hooks (Exhibit A: “Everybody’s Swimming”) set against the stop-start dynamics of influences like The Pixies and Enon.

But this album is something more.

Oliver began writing what would become Thank You after the death of his brother in late 2017. The pain, confusion and embrace of his brother’s optimistic spirit gave shape to this collection — the title of which is both a play on the formalities of grief and a genuine expression of thanks.  It opens with "Generous Seas,” a piece of instrumental scene-setting: waves of guitar washing over you in reverse, ringing in your ears, conjuring a state of rumination. Fade into “Isle of Youth,” a searching swirl punctuated by sharp melodic bursts.  Emerging from that place is “Everybody’s Swimming ,” a classic Nathan Oliver stomp that breaks into an exuberant pogo-stick chorus.

The album’s centerpiece, “Even If You Go,” is an aching letter across time, culminating in a stripped-down final verse that stops everything and lands in the gut. It’s a timeless song that feels like it’s always existed (attn: TV music programmers).

Bookending that song are “Air Control” and “Stand In Line,” two off-kilter rockers bursting with loopy hooks and acid humor.  And then comes the album’s climax, the tense, tortured “Runaway.” You might say it sounds a bit like The Strokes playing tug-of-war with Unwound — though any comparison fails to capture the song’s unique power, how it maps so closely to a feeling of desperate panic.

The denouement, “A Tangent In Time,” is more peaceful, though unresolved. 
Something of a cosmic dial tone carries you through its swaying “whoas,” marking a gentle goodbye to a past that’s never quite over.  

If Thank You sounds more organic and cohesive than past Nathan Oliver releases, that’s by design. Unlike Oliver’s usual practice of crafting in private and bringing to the band, the songs on Thank You were fleshed out and fine-tuned over months of rehearsal with band members Joe Caparo (bass, guitar, pianet) and Brad Porter (drums, percussion). Their chemistry predates Caparo and Porter’s addition to the Nathan Oliver lineup: The two have backed songwriter Brett Harris and played together in Some Army; and Caparo has played with Nathan Oliver since 2017, way back when live shows were a thing.

Recording began in October of last year at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium in Kernersville, N.C., with Missy Thangs (Reese McHenry, Wye Oak, Ex Hex, H.C. McEntire) in the engineer’s seat, and continued with additional tracking at Thread Audio in Raleigh. While touring is off the table at the moment, before long (2021?!) Nathan Oliver will return to the same stages they’ve shared with Neil Halstead, Bombadil and Des Ark.

Punky reggae rockers from Baltimore whose infectious energy keeps the party jumping all night, The Scotch Bonnets have been bringing the heat and their good-love vibes since debutting in 2009. The crew is fearlessly lead by singer-guitarist Kristin Forbes aka Lady Hatchet, whose tunes blend classic Jamaican groves with a funky fresh approach to American singer-songwriting. The Bonnets released their first full-length Live Ya Life in 2012 and dropped Quest in 2014, an EP done in collaboration with their legendary friend HR of Bad Brains. In April 2015, the band toured with Roddy Radiation, founding lead guitarist of The Specials. That same month, the Bonnets released a video for their song on Hooligans United, a Smelvis Records’ tribute to Rancid, and it has since been viewed over 15 thousand times.

At last year's Supernova International Ska Festival, the band released The District, their first 7” on Jump Up Records and their second video for its A-side. They earned praise their song on Recutting The Crap, a Crooked Beat Records’ LP that reinterprets The Clash’s swan song, Cut The Crap. The Bonnets had the privilege of recording their track at DC’s punk pantheon Inner Ear Studio with owner Don Zientera.

The Scotch Bonnets did a second tour with Roddy Radiation last May, culminating in two sets at this year's Supernova Ska Fest. They are currently planning the release of their second full-length album for early 2019 with tours to follow. The journey is continually evolving for these reggae cats, mee-yowza!

ARMON JAY
For Armon Jay’s third and latest solo effort, aptly titled The Dark Side of Happiness, the burgeoning auteur took matters into his own hands, writing, recording, arranging, engineering and producing every song, and playing virtually every instrument at his home studio in Franklin, TN.
On his new album, Armon has turned his crisis of faith – all that anxiety, frustration, neuroses, self-doubt and compulsive behavior – into art, yet another step on his ongoing artistic journey. The Dark Side of Happiness isn’t just personal but offers an intimate glimpse into Armon’s own inner conflict, a quiet record with subtle dynamics, but emotionally raw.
“Some days, Depression is real life for me, and other days it isn’t. Most days, are somewhere in the middle, which can be the strangest. This album explores all of the above”
Armon spent nearly 14 hours a day for two months recording the album, barely getting any sleep. “As heavy lyrically as the album is, it was the most fun I’ve ever had making music,” he insists. “I woke up every day with a feeling of purpose which felt right. It felt good.”
Working with mixer Zach Hanson from Justin Vernon’s April Base studio outside of Eau Claire, WI, where Bon Iver albums are made, proved to play a major role in how it turned out after Armon recorded “in the box,” using UAD interface and plugins. “I credit Zach with bringing that analog warmth to the album,” says Armon, adding kudos for Jeremy Larson, who recorded and arranged the strings for three tracks (“Lighthouse,” “Break the Habit” and the title song) and Abby Gundersen, responsible for the violins on “Stay Grounded.”
The last two years have been the most successful yet for Armon Jay’s ascendant musical career. As a member of Chris Carrabba’s Dashboard Confessional, he toured and recorded with the band on its first studio album in nine years. Songs from his first two solo albums earned a number of song placements, including “Edge of the Dark” (from 2013’s Everything’s Different, Nothing’s Changed), which garnered syncs in Criminal Minds, So You Think You Can Dance and Salvation, while “Better Off Without” (from 2015’s Del Rio) ended up in 13 Reasons Why, Nashville, Heartbeat and Set It Up, among others.

Born in Dallas Texas and raised in the Metroplex, I fell in love with electronic music around the age of 11. When i was 13 years of age i experienced an extremely bad motorcycle accident, i was hospitalized and placed into ICU at which time i was enduring a coma. Due to the grace of god and those who prayed for me i against all odds pertruded from the coma almost completely unscathed. Unfortunately i suffered from hearing loss.. The motorcycle accident rendered me completely deaf in my left ear :( After continuing my path of normality through life i was blessed with my beautiful daughter Mason Elizabeth, shes the light of my life and the apple of my eye ~ Shortly afterwards i began to work at becoming a DJ. Juggeling a full time job, parenting, and my new found desire was difficult at times but with the support of my family and friends i persevered. Perception is key to life, even when held back by so many obstacles such as my hearing loss i maintained my optimistic outlook at life and here we are.... Sam Strick started Djing in Afghanistan while serving a deployment in the Army. He traveled to the Club Mecca, Ibiza, Spain in the summer of 08’ for an R&R and had a life changing experience. When he returned to Afghanistan he started a weekly house night called Ibiza Nights while still in a war zone. Sam Strick let the decks consumed him and tried to dedicate every free second he had to mixing and researching music genres to become a better artist. Sam Strick got out of the army in 09’ and moved to Orlando, Florida to start DJ and producing while attending college. 

He’s played in the greater Orlando area for half a decade and played at venues such as Firestone, Sky 60, Suite B, Crooked Bayou, and the Peacock Room. He played classical instruments such as the chello and upright bass in his younger years, which gave him an acute ear for mixing and composing music. Now, he's taking his journey to the keyboard and plans to release his first EP in 2013 in the deep house genre.

Sam Strick commented, “I really feel that I can express myself with deep house. I like the experimental and dark side of it, which has always influenced my listening sound since a boy, like Pink Floyd and the Doors. I also love deep house because it has that sexy side that appeals to women. ”
 
His performances range from deep house, tech house, techno, and experimental. In 2014 Sam Strick plans to start an Independent Label called Teep Records. Look out for this driven artist to come up quickly in the Underground Scene we call House.
