Just about a hundred miles from the middle of the state, sits Caruthers California. Caruthers is famous for the Caruthers District Fair, the famous bi-plane in the filling station, and soon, the home of country music's latest find - Gregor Ross.

Now, Caruthers is nowhere near the country music capital of Nashville, but it is a fairly good hop-skip-and a-jump to Bakersfield, which enjoys a country music lineage of its own.

Gregor's musical lineage runs deep. His grandparents were both singers and instrumentalists with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and they instilled the love of country music in Gregor. After years of watching the Grand Ole Opry with his grandfather, Ellis would opine that Gregor would get to play there one day.

"Ours is a big ol' rambunctious family," Gregor smiles. "They all recognized that I loved music, but no one ever really thought I would go down that road because I had 80% hearing loss in both ears”.

"We all worked hard, and as a teenager I felt I had to jump in and pull my weight." Gregor's uncle Rick taught him the skill of welding - to great success. Gregor is a Champion Welder having won skills competitions across the state. This is an art that is definitely not on the usual resume of a country artist. He's been a professional welder since he was a teenager, but during every break he always returned to his guitar.

When the cochleae in both ears were reconstructed at age 15 to restore his hearing, the music's magic became more of a siren song, and he began to play music in earnest.

Of course like all young men he dabbled in rock, but it was country that remained in his heart. And so every chance he could, Gregor would play and sing locally, expanding his realm to include Bakersfield and Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. Now Gregor's first commercial product will be released on June 3rd.

The six-song EP Turn Up The Noise, was recorded in Los Angeles at Daniel "Dr. Ford's" private studio, and is comprised of all original material written and performed by Gregor. He is backed ably by studio mates Dave Pearlman on Steel, Bruce Lawrence on Guitars, and Kara Britz and Zack Ford on Backgrounds. In addition to producing and engineering duties, Dr. Ford chipped in on guitars and vocals. Ford's award-winning work and approach to "Lyrical Mixing" has charted at #1 on iTunes, on the Billboard charts and gained him a featured position as a master educator on Pro Studio Live.

"Music to me is like a photo album full of memories," Gregor explains. 	Samuel has been a staple on the west coast underground dance scene since 1998. Since signing his first vinyl remix in 2001, to Transition Records, Samuel’s production and dj performances have taken him across the globe. Samuel’s sets are versatile and his abilities form to fit nearly any mood and party. Most commonly Samuel is booked to play his brand of 2am tech house mixed flawlessly. He has shared the stage with Fatboy Slim, Steve Lawler, Mark Farina, JT Donaldson, Lance Desardi, Iz and Diz, and countless others in the past twelve years. In 2004, Mimosa Recordings was formed; and today is headed by Samuel. Mimosa has become a standard in dance music throughout the world. With productions ranging from deep house to trip-hop to techno, Samuel has kept the label on top. Now Mimosa just releases digitally, and they are constantly on the top of charts at beatport.com and many others.

With a solid number of new productions and remixes, after a unbelievable 2010, Samuel has been taking some time off touring to just work on production.

The sound Samuel is currently focusing on blends and influences from UK Funky, deep tech (as usual), and bass music.

2012 will be a new page, new production, still rocking vinyl, and a new custom built studio which will take Sam's production into areas we have not seen from him, or anyone:)

Music is all around they say which is true. I spent some of my childhood in Singapore Kenya and Shetland. As a young person I had a few lessons on guitar then I was hooked. I stopped playing and performing when I had children until about six years ago. Then friends encouraged me to get Jezebel my guitar fixed in fact between them and my father they paid for it. It took a while to get half way proficient again. After doing covers for a while I thought why not try writing a song . The First one came very quick indeed 25 minutes in the back of a car while on a day trip with my friends. Simma Dim which is one the album inspired by nature and memories of Shetland s a child.

 

Then came about 2 years of intermittent songs . Then I realised I almost had what constituted

of enough songs to make an album. Talking to Shaun Buswell at an Open mic we sort of made it happen . Off I went to Sweden for the weekend forgiven for missing the original flight feeling go hide under a rock moment . Hence the reference to the plane on the fount cover. The week before thinking I needed some ore choice in songs I wrote Jambo Malindi Mombasa Inspired by y childhood and revisiting Kenya as an adult. I have a love of Crete so also came Havania . I wrote Debrovnic while staying close by to this ancient beautiful city. Ost of my song s are about places and environment. See a tree was more up close and personal as it was addressing my past as a young woman bereaved at 21 with my soul mate committing suicide. Recently came Wild Cards which is about sitting in an ITU ward beside someone in a comma.

I live in Zimbabwe come visit me some time I'll pay for the flight costs. Hopefully you don't get dragged off of the plane just a quick reminder don't go with United Airlines.

“I only had the morning to complete some crucial lyrics, but they seemed to come quick and easy in an old Mission District diner the morning of recording,” says Australian singer-songwriter Justin Gill of his last-minute moment of creativity leading to the creation of Truth In Silence, his debut album as Redvers.

Gill arrives onto the music scene at a time when the world needs more heart and less noise, and he delivers this between the notes of the undulating rhythms and unassuming, visceral prose of this collection of personal songs.

Listeners will hear Pink Floyd’s “Goodbye Blue Sky” and Beck’s “Guess I’m Doing Fine” as touchstones in album opener “Dawn Interlude” where Gill’s ethereal arrangements envelope a charm and deep honesty seldom heard today. Fresh, raw, and without armor, Gill presents his songwriting as a soft hum that pacifies the soul and captures an essence unyielding.

Truth In Silence is the product of an aborted attempt at writing an album in isolation following Gill’s move back to his family home in the Blue Mountains of Australia during the winter of 2011.

“It was a false start, so I moved down to Kings Cross which is a notorious nightclub strip in Sydney packed with prostitutes, drunks, and junkies – an eclectic array of humanity,” Gill explains.  “I began to write about what I was seeing.”

This experience, coupled with the quiet inspiration and literary backdrop of Gill’s majestic Blue Mountain hometown, gave birth to a collection of beautiful songs.  His haunting voice orchestrates a subdued vibration that resonates eloquently within each song on Truth In Silence.  To make the record, Gill dreamed of recording in America, and so landed in San Francisco in 2013 to track the album at Tiny Telephone.  

“I was enraptured at the sense of freedom as I boarded the plane,” he remembers.  “I was off to capture a special moment in time. It felt fortuitous that the first song I heard on the flight was Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit,’ a track I’ve loved a million times.”  Truth In Silence was produced by Ian Pellicci (Deerhoof, John Vanderslice, James Jackson Toth) who captured the entire album in a single day.

“I was stunned how quickly it happened, but it just poured out,” Gill says.  “We had so much time left, it allowed me to experiment a little,” he explains of the scenario that led to Magik*Magik Orchestra cellist Michelle Kwon’s appearance on the recordings.  “I really enjoyed the speed at which it all came together and we made improvisational choices that captured our raw emotion,” he says.

Gill is currently writing the second Redvers album and is already planning a third that he will write on a trip to India later this year.  “For the first time in my life I feel I have defined a path that I know I can walk down. I’m really looking forward to getting this music out into the world.”
