This is a long one...hope you find the time to listen. Extensive liner notes below to keep your attention.

For the vocal I mainly started out with what in Logic is called "Warm Vocal" and and also the "Telephone Vocal". There are four vocal tracks in the chorus. The vocal effect at the end is achieved using Stereo Delay with different timing on the left and right channels. 

I spent some time working on  compression in Logic Pro X before mastering in Izotope Ozone. My objective was to get the compression "breathing" with the track. Happy to receive comments on this aspect.  

This started out as a Rhodes jam I called "G Bluesy" and just got longer and longer - I'm a little obsessed with the sound. I wanted to make a hopeful breakup song, giving the feeling of life moving on to a better place. I left many of the jammy elements in resulting in somewhat of a challenge when adding the other instruments as every here and there it goes off meter. For those of you that have heard my previous tracks there is nothing new and innovative here - its just me having fun with my favorite sounds.

As opposed to many other songs this one is in fact mostly autobiographical. When I got divorced back in the 1900s I ended up leaving the joint apartment in 15 min with a suitcase and my Roland Digital Piano (it still works 30 years later). I didn't have anywhere to go and moved from place to place for six months. It actually caused me some problems finding a new job as not having a permanent address didn't inspire a lot of confidence with the potential employers. One of those nights, when in my single bedroom apartment above a bakery, I was watching a VHS (the video rental was 15 meters from the entrance to my building) with Vivienne Leigh, and decided I wanted to live a more comfortable life like in the movie. The result was changing jobs and moving to South America after which I never looked back. I'll let you figure which movie I was watching by yourselves.

In the 80's, my producer, Larry Dvoskin, a longtime local of Greenwich Village, NYC met Bruce Paskow, the frontman for the folk-beatnik band 'The Washington Squares' and they began to write a few songs together. In the past, Paskow had struggled with heroin use, but had recently got life back on track. He had gotten clean, got signed to a record deal by Danny Goldberg - who would later go on to become the manager of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. Bruce even met, fell in love with, and then married the woman of his dreams. It was at this point that the song "The Kindness of Others" began - It was an idea that Dvoskin and Paskow had - at the time it was just one verse long, but was full of potential.

In the early 90's, Bruce was diagnosed with AIDS. Back then, it was a death sentence. He had contracted the virus from his previous years as a heroin user, and unbeknownst to him, had given it to his wife as well. They both passed away within the year and the song "The Kindness of Others" faded away as well.

Flash forward about 30 years and I was working on some songs with my producer Larry in my Greenwich Village apartment - Larry played me "The Kindness of Others" on an acoustic guitar and I immediately loved it. I asked who it was by and was surprised to find out that it was an original and that it had never been finished. Then, Larry asked me to help him finish writing the song and come up with an arrangement. I agreed, spent a few hours on it and the rest is history - I'm proud to help bring to life and share with you all a song that's been 30 years in the making :)

03 What Is This World We Live In

Another chapter in my Mars story. The protagonists have landed on mars and reach their martian habitat.

I wanted to touch a few different points in this song.. 

Firstly, after months in zero gravity, the astronauts suffer from muscle and bone atrophy, making them weak. 

Secondly, while watching NASA's Insight landing, I was fascinated with the engineers which were anxiously watching their monitors for progress on the mission, with the knowledge that the landing was already over. Speed-of-light latency meant they just didn't know the result yet as communications take between 6 to 40 minutes depending on the relative position of Earth and Mars. So all they could do was watch and hope everything went ok.

Thirdly, a habitat would have to be sent, assembled and verified before a manned mission could be performed. A pressurized area of breathable atmosphere, with radiation shielding to protect from cosmic rays.

Homeless, starving, and caring for two newly orphaned infants she names Sol and Dag, she heads desperately toward the blazing funeral pyres beyond the city gates of corpse-littered Trondheim.

There, she discovers a young man being tortured by the Bailiff’s men. In the shadowy forest, she encounters a mysterious and captivating stranger named Tengel. He asks for her help to save the young man, Niels Stierne, whom the Bailiff’s men falsely accuse of being Heming, the infamous Bailiff-killer. Together, they devise a plan and successfully rescue Niels from his tormentors.

In return, Tengel promises to ensure the safety of the two children. He leads Silje to a farm owned by Benedikt, a painter, where she finds refuge.

A guitar friend on SoundCloud had challenged me to make a guitar and piano work earlier this year as it has not been done much.. The guitarist who had agreed to collaborate with me could not record at this time so I used my moon guitar software playing piano motifs.. A performance for reaching 2000 + SC followers. 

It sits on the introspective side of neoclassical but with strong melodic content. The piano improv by itself is very different as the MIDI keyboard does not allow great technical difficulty in performance.
