Tokyo’s DJ Sodeyama returns as The People In Fog this June, delivering his new album under the alias, ‘1977’, via Japanese imprint Sound Of Vast.

Yoshifumi Sodeyama better known to most as DJ Sodeyama has been a driving force in the Japanese underground electronic music scene for many years now, over the past decade and a half he’s been releasing his Techno material via the likes of Nina Kraviz's трип, Dynamic Reflection, his own Arpa Records and more. Here though Yoshifumi shifts focus to his The People In Fog guise with his new album, the alias was started in 2013 and is a project based on house grooves and unique beats. After the debut album ‘A Ray of Light’ was released eight years ago, he delivered three EPs for Sound Of Vast established in Amsterdam, among which, the ‘Higher’ EP turned out to be a big hit.

Across the ‘1977’ LP, named after the year Chicago’s highly influential Warehouse was born, Sodeyama presents a range of styles in the field of House, from percussive-led, hypnotic offerings like opener ‘South Jefferson’ and ‘Less Is More’, the jazz-tinged aesthetic of ‘No Boundaries’ and more groove driven compositions like ‘Come To Me feat. Monkey Timers’ and ‘Mr. Dub’ which lay focus on swinging drums, snaking bass grooves and chanting vocals.

The final three tracks from the vinyl part of the project also shine a light on some acid house influences with a recurring theme of squelchy 303 lines amidst ethereal pad textures, dynamic drums and infectious vocal hooks. Also on offer as digital bonus cuts are the low-slung acid workout ‘Platz feat. YOSA’ and the shuffled deep house sounds of ‘Burnt feat. S.O.N’.

‘1977’ presents the accumulative knowledge and experience of a DJ career which reaches beyond 30 years and further showcases Sodeyama’s passion towards music, all compiled into one long player.

Holic Trax has established itself as a respected, no nonsense outlet for quality house and techno and that carries on here with a new EP from Keita Sano that comes on a limited edition run of coloured vinyl.
Keita Sano is based in Okayama, Japan and has previously released on labels such as
NYC’s Mister Saturday Night and Hugo Capablanca’s Discos Capablanca. Here he presents his latest single for the ever excellent Holic Trax in raw and excellent fashion.
Up first, ‘Flowers From Your Grave’ is a gritty number with tough drums, Detroit inspired pads and plenty of physicality in the groove. Crisp and dynamic, it’s a robust house cut, for sure.
‘Let’s Stay Together’
is a more party sounding offering with atmospheric ambience in the back ground as streaming Rhodes chords and organic percussion set a Moodymann style vibe front and centre.
Then comes ‘Night Walking’, which flips the script again, this time sinking down into a warm,
propulsive deep house vibe with bold but soft edged chords, driving drums and engaging hand claps. Lastly, vinyl only cut ‘Exit’ is a prickly, raw and frazzled acid number with phased
basslines, panning 303 squelches and plenty of wallop in its bones.
This is a fine EP that is sure to make a big impact on the dance floor.

Having been staples of his DJ sets over the past few months “Morning” finally sees release on Redlight Music. Berlin-based label boss Denite delivers 2 tech-house killers alongside 1 remix from Italian duo NICe7 and 1 special edit.

Title-track “Morning” opens up proceedings Redlight Music’s 46th release. The catchy and groovy tech house bomb sees a cheeky keyboard melody drive the track forward with groovy percussions, vocal samples and a strong bass line following in tow.

Second original track “Sundance” sees Denite go on a deeper house trip. Energetic percussion work grooves alongside a deep, electric bass while horns round off the edges of the track. Next up is Italian tag-team NICe7 (Noir Music / D-Floor) who remix “Sundance”. The duo offer up their acid-house vision of the original track with an evolving acid-soaked bass loop and shuffling drums.

The “MEED Edit” of “Morning” closes the record. Recorded live and on the spot by Denite during his performance at MEED Festival in Elche (Spain), we hear Denite deconstructing the track with a slowed-down beat and slurring keyboards. The essence of the original track is kept well and alive, but covered in a lightly spaced-out electronica veil.

DJ Nature follows up 2018’s ‘Ultimate Delusion’ EP with another set of pure heaters for Futureboogie.  

The Bristol born DJ and producer, also known to many as Nature Boy, comes with an exemplary track record, but that’s to be expected from one of the scene’s early pioneers.  Releases for Golf Channel Recordings, Jazzy Sport and Ruff Disco Records are considered true classics, and rightly so!

Breezy MPC house jams of the highest quality, ‘Flutter’ manages to fuse David Lynch style pads and earthy vocals with a marching rhythm, whilst ‘A Moment’ gets cosmically charged with a spiralling modular lick over a chugging guitar hook and spacey chords.

NB’s Mix of Siliconada goes straight for the jugular, with looping disco rhythms and off kilter jazz licks, whilst the Original Version lays heavy and disorientating synth work down for a killer techno injection.

As always, DJ Nature delivers a unique and distinctive sound that is often imitated but never bettered!
