I've got a little secret to share in this podcast that you might not be ready to hear.  So, when you're ready...go listen!  You won't regret it.

This podcast actually stems from a time in my life when I was struggling and I kept asking my mom for advice.  "Tell me your secrets!"  I'd say.  "I want to know."  She would keep telling me I wasn't in the right frame of mind to hear it yet and kept putting me off and putting me off.  Well, what does that do to anyone?  It sparks their curiosity and makes them want to know....NOW!!!

So when I made her tell me it started off with the phrase, "You're not going to want to hear this."  Ha ha.  That's not the most fun thing to hear before someone proceeds to offer advice.  But, it was very simple y'all and you probably need to hear it, too.

On the back end of the podcast, I talk a little bit about what real self-care is and what it isn't.  Interesting that the tough message from my mom is actually what proves to care for the self THE VERY BEST!

Why does Mother's Day shortly after a divorce feel weird or different?  I hope it doesn't for you, but just in case, I shared my perspective which I believe many share.

It is interesting that once divorced, you fall into the category of Single Mom.  Isn't that nice that society has a new name for you?  Subconsciously, this can feel like a different definition and even a different identity.

I believe this identity can enhance what motherhood means to you and is a special calling.  As we rise to any challenge we may have, the Lord qualifies whom he calls.

Parenting By The LInks: Mastering Emotions with Chain Analysis

When I saw this quote from Eckhart Tolle that I opened the podcast with, it really hit me. It hit me so hard that it inspired thoughts to spew out of me that I felt would be very pertinent to so many.

It is so important to remember that we are not our emotions. I realized that a couple of weeks ago, I fell prey to personifying the way I was feeling. I began to identify with it. I felt like it was part of me. I had forgotten that feelings come and go. Just because I was sad, did not mean I was a sad person and it would last forever. 

I see this all of the time with my clients. Narrative therapy is what I will often use to try to objectify and separate those feelings from the identity. When a person says they are anxious or have anxiety, it has become part of their identity. It has become something that has been felt so consistently that it is now a part of the subconscious and is a way of life. Narrative therapy suggests to separate these entities by objectifying them. For example, labeling feelings of anxiety and painting them into a character such as "the old lady" or whatever. That way, you can ask when they remember "the old lady" first showing up. Can you see how this can begin to separate emotions from idenity?

What do you want in a mate?  Sometimes after a divorce the question becomes, what do I never want to repeat again?  Taking a moment to ask these questions of ourselves is important before we embark into the dating world, because we don't want to repeat patterns that were harmful or simply didn't work.

Hey, so we're in the middle of a pandemic and also have protesting, rioting, and looting...Who wants to talk about dating and love after divorce???  Seems odd to break topic, but I'm going to and this one is good folks!

In this podcast, I won't be talking about the typical red flags in dating like if he still lives with his parents or if he owns a pet boa constrictor named Clarisse.  Although those are still smart to heed, what I want to present is what many mistake for love.  Our biggest red flag is our own repeated pattern and those are sometimes hard to see.

So, what do people mistake for love?  How about infatuation, desire, dependency, transactionalism, possession, and attachment.  These things are not true love and so many of us fall into these traps in the quest for love.

72.  Dating After Divorce:  Disguises of Love - The Real Red Flags in Dating

Betrayal Trauma occurs when someone we are significantly attached to lets us down and/or betrays our trust in a critical way.  Betrayal trauma recovery more commonly addresses the spouses affected by pornography abuse, infidelity, and/or sex addiction.  


More studies are being corroborated to show that spouses who experience the daggers of mistrust associated with repeated relapses of pornography use and/or sex addiction are in fact experiencing complex trauma.  In order for adequate recovery to occur, it is crucial to get into a program where it is addressed the appropriate way.

In this podcast, we hear the story of a woman who's husband is a pornography addict.  Her journey of healing is inspiring as she found the right fit for her in the WORTH program.  We also hear from a therapist within that program who informs about the terms and processes within betrayal trauma recovery.  


It's so important to give a voice to those who sometimes become invisible in their spouse's recovery.  These stories are difficult to share and take so much bravery and courage. 73. Betrayal Trauma Recovery Part 1

We've all heard of physical armor: shields, helmets, breast plates and so on.  But, what is your mental armor?  What are the things that help you break mental barriers and live in a peak emotional state?

You know when you've heard something that has changed you?  Think back to a time when you listened to a story that impacted you enough to stir a noticeable shift in your heart.  Luckily, this just happened to me when my new friend shared a very intimate experience with me from her past.  So,  I convinced her to share it with all of you.

In this podcast, Karla shares her stories and insights of how forgiveness is a gift from Heavenly Father.  She expounds upon how after years of sexual abuse as a child, she was able to forgive her abuser.  Her story is purely miraculous and through that experience she has possessed this gift of forgiveness that has helped her to forgive time and time again throughout her life.

Sometimes even the idea of having to forgive someone is too much to comprehend.  But when we completely turn it over to the Lord, it is possible and can completely free us.

84.  The Gift of Forgiveness

Here's the deal.  I know how loneliness feels.  It can really suck, I get it.  But, ya know what else is worse?  Being in a lousy relationship or even worse, an abusive one.  Sometimes once we're freshly out of that relationship, the sting of loneliness hits us hard at first and literally blinds our memory of how bad it was in the relationship.

We start freaking out and want to either get back into said relationship or jump into another one straight quick.  Desire to be with someone can get so out of wack that it actually screws up our chances.  Have you ever wanted something so badly that it just couldn't work?!  Weird that sometimes when we want something too bad, it just slips through our fingers.

In this week's podcast I take a look at how we can change our focus from wanting a partner and why we want one into who we want to become for OURSELVES!  There's SO much good to do, so much fun to be a part of, and so much life to live!

89.  There are Worse Things than being Alone

Having the Gift of the Holy Ghost is probably life's most precious gift.  We sometimes forget we even have it, though.  We have GOOGLE where we can get all our answers, so we forget we have the greatest direction ever!

Our world is obsessed with self help books, diets, blogs, smoothies, gurus, podcasts (um ya, that's me).  Everywhere you turn someone has the answer or strategy you need to feel better, be better, look better, dream better.  Shoot!  Our precious gift gets overshadowed easily, especially when we get out of practice of using it.

94.  Some Quick COMMUNICATION HACKS

In this video, I interview President Tim Overton of the Phoenix, AZ West Maricopa Stake.  President Overton has been stake president for 5 years and a previous bishop.  He joined the church 20 years ago while playing football at Idaho State University.  Tim works as an attorney and law professor and specializes in inclusion, diversity and race relations.

I wanted to take a peek inside the training of bishops and  shine light on what their role is while one is going through a divorce.  Or, what their role is in general in conflict resolution.  I was surprised to hear of the amount of resources available.  This left me filled with hope for any individual who is seeking guidance and counsel from a bishop.

The Church has taken great strides in aiding its members with mental health.  We need to remember that bishops are human and are not trained therapists.  However, they can offer so much guidance and have direct access to find more support if you so need.

In this podcast I interview my oldest daughter Izzy.  I thought it could be beneficial to go to the source and ask how her experience has been with going between two households.

I can imagine that having four parents might feel a little much at times, but Izzy handles it great.  She's a wonderful oldest sister to all her siblings and is a great example.

I love how she explains having two houses as such a great way of living.  She is truly blessed but also has natural frustrations that come with the territory.

I know how parents worry about their children especially when faced with divorce.  You are a good parent because of it!  Please do not assume it'll automatically be hard for them or something they cannot overcome.  Instead, take those energies and harness them into creating a beautiful picture of what their life is.

98. Stuck in a Rut? I can get you OUT!

We are talking fitness, health, physical journey today folks, and boy this guy has had one...and a few.  Growing up as a kid who was always overweight, it was super hard to feel confident enough to jump into the physical fitness world that the small town had to offer. Nobody really teaches you how to break out of unhealthy habits at that age, but Jordan exercised a lot of fortitude going into college to take his first steps in a healthier direction.

Next comes love, then comes marriage, then comes babies in a baby carriage (ok, that sounds familiar) and sometimes those things throw wrenches in the physical fitness area.  We can ALL relate!

Then Jordan pushed through and broke through some barriers he never could before to get to where he is now.  11% body fat and training to GAIN weight/muscle.  He can't believe he's stepping on the scale and hoping it'll go up.  A place he's never been before.
