Kingsway’s latest volume, Utopia, is crafted to sonically represent a perfect day. Produced and composed by Young Buddha (Formerly VinnyX), Utopia is not only for sampling, but also intended to be enjoyed as a full instrumental album.

Each sample is time stamped with the dual meaning of a specific time of day and also the birthdays of close friends, with the first and last tracks waking you up from, and returning you to the dream state. 

Musically there are many layers and moods to unpack, with a thread of uplifting and inspiring melodies weaving amongst meditative backdrops and textures.

I felt like I wanted to give y'all something a little different this time so I took this opportunity to experiment with a ton of different vocal styles and played around with some effects. My personal favorites from this tape are Stranded, As Winter Approaches and the bonus track at the end ;)

The project stands for "The Art Is Zombified, U Killed Everything", and it has to deal with the fact that everyone is rapping but nobody is standing out to me in my opinion. I feel like we've been watering ourselves down. This is to pick back up.

When Jose Rivera started researching the Bay Area’s Chicano history, he was frustrated by how difficult it was to find information. To remedy this problem, Jose created Oakland Latinos Unidos as a platform for sharing stories that are often left out of mainstream narratives. We recently met up at a picnic table in San Antonio Park where Jose laid out some of the archives he’s amassed over the past two decades – newspaper clippings, grainy black-and-white photographs, and rare, out-of-print books. Under a redwood tree, we discussed everything from the De Anza expedition to the gang wars that Jose lived through while growing up in Jingletown.
