The Great Smoky Mountain Bluegrass Band plays music grounded in the great traditions of bluegrass music, featuring tunes by Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, as well as performing their own traditional-based tunes and Gospel quartets. They are experts on the history of the music, and they like to fill-in audiences on the stories and histories behind the tunes and styles they play. Their shows are always informative, exciting, and entertaining. Come and spend an evening steeped in bluegrass tradition!

Richard Hood (banjo and vocal) currently teaches performance and history courses in the Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Studies program at East Tennessee State University. Richard has been performing for decades, appearing on national television (including the Nashville Network’s Fire on the Mountain series and Public television’s Soundstage), at dozens of major festivals, and on many recordings, and shared the stage with most of the greats of bluegrass. He counts among former students such musicians as Greg Cahill (Special Consensus) and Muriel Anderson (national finger-picking champion), and his original songs have been recorded by Jim Eanes and other pioneers of bluegrass. He has lectured and demonstrated American music and culture at dozens of schools and colleges.

Jeff Elkins (bass and vocal) was playing jazz bass in Europe before he finished high school. He has since played bluegrass and other genres in a dozen states, on both coasts, and in several foreign countries. After fifteen years playing blues and country in Nashville, Jeff returned to his Eastern Kentucky roots and has been playing bluegrass bass and singing high, lonesome tenor throughout the Appalachian region.

Greg Fields (guitar and vocal) grew up in Sullivan County, Tennessee and has deep family roots throughout the area. There he was exposed to traditional music, which he has been playing since childhood. He has performed in bluegrass and old-time bands in Tennessee for decades, and now lives in Greene County. Greg is a popular instructor of guitar, bass, and banjo in the ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Studies program.

Jason Wood (mandolin and vocal) began playing fiddle tunes at age seven, and by the time he was thirteen, was performing regularly with renowned banjoist and band leader, A.L. Wood. In the ensuing years, Jason taped a Song of the Mountains episode with the legendary Curly Seckler, and toured with Constant Change, Audie Blaylock and Redline, Tim White, The James King Band, and The Wood Family Tradition. In 2011, Jason recorded a live tribute to Bill Monroe at the Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival for Rural Rhythm Records. He makes his home in Statesville, North Carolina.

Mirco Violi was born in Milan in 1986. The musical journey of Mirco begins near the 15 years old while listening to some house tapes remained significantly affected. These tape recordings were mixed by some of the best dj's on the world stage as Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan, Todd Terry, Theo Parrish and Carl Craig, so he began to approach of the djing world. Bought decks and mixer with his music partner Filippo Agnesi, the first vinyls and with him began to mixing only for passion, doing dance and entertain their friends.
Mirco and Fill started performing for the first time in some small clubs of their city with the pseudonym "Multiview", where more and more people began to know the his name.
Since 2007 Mirco starts mixing, writing and producing music alone, sending the first demos to a few foreign labels; the step is short. In 2008 the German label Be_chosen (on which artists have recorded as Lemos and Markus Fix) decides to entrust him a release with a remix for Senor Coconut. During the same period goes out with an ep on Heimatmelodie (played by Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Karotte and many others). 
In 2009/2010 several successful releases have been issued on OFF, International Freakshow, Hypercolour, Bloop, Bla Bla, Welt Sounds, Climatic, Catwash, Adult Only and All Inn Limited.
With this the name of Mirco circulates in the environment of electronic music where it is appreciated by many world talented dj's than playing and likes his productions. The sound proposals by Mirco in his dj sets are a mixture that passes from funky/deep/tech house to techno and dub, obtaining approval from the audience all over Europe for his sound.

New York Times describes Tamar as  "Having a voice that can fill 3 stadiums and the moves of Tina Turner."  Ashley Támar, also known as the muse and favorite singer of her mentor Prince, gained notoriety for being the music legends "Protégé́" while co-writing their Grammy-nominated duet "Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed" (Universal Republic, 3121). Along with her sophomore album release "I Am the Storm," and with recent jaw-dropping performances on NBC’s “The Voice: Season X,” Támar is currently on tour in the critically acclaimed Broadway musical “A Night with Janis Joplin” (A.C.T. Theatre & La Mirada Theatre) in which she was nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and can be viewed on Broadway HD streaming worldwide January 2019. To add to her musical theatre repertoire, Ms. Davis has been featured as Sarah Vaughn in "Sarah Sings a Love Story" (NYC) as well as debuting in the national Broadway tour, “Motown, the Musical” (Diana Ross u/s, Esther Gordy, Gladys Knight, Gladys Horton, Lula). Bush and former Secretary of State at the “Helping a Hero” event, Támar continues to excel in creating her own path. Támar recently launched the “Támar Talks Podcast:” a weekly podcast about the Entertainment business as it relates to Education. A graduate of University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music with a bachelor’s in music business.Támar initiated and created Syren Music Group, LLC: a music entertainment company that specializes in the advancement of independent music and live entertainment which was funded through personal finances acquired while on tour and starring in Tyler Perry’s stage-play “The Marriage Counselor” as the only nuanced lead (New York Times). PANDASS Biography:

It was a clear night, the sky was starry and the moon watched majestically from above on the quiet forest.
Here, crouched among the bamboo canes, near the shore of the stream, two pandas enjoyed a regenerating sleep after a long day of work and play.
Nothing disturbs the sleep of pandas generally, but that night something happened that changed forever the fate of those two cute animals.
A roar caused one to jump, then the other. Then the silence.
Who, or what, dared to awaken those two pandas from their blessed rest? A dazzling light appeared in the sky, seeming to bet the stream.
The two approached with caution, alert and careful not to make mistakes, completely unaware of what was happening. When they arrived at destination, the two pandas were amazed.
The light bet the water, but there was something in the stream, something that the pandas had never seen.
A sound attracted those two animals to that piece of land that had appeared casually that night in the middle of the water.
When they arrived at destination, they found with their surprise an object never seen before, with many keys and two objects that remembered two ears, connected with a wire, from which that sound came.
The two, undecided about what to do, could not retreat, attracted magnetically by that noise.
They approached those two objects, they put their snouts in and an explosion of energy through the body of the two pandas, they could not stop moving, captured by that magical sound.
From that day on, their life would no longer be the same and the night and day were reversed.

Rivers Monroe has emerged as one of Philadelphia’s most popular bands, supported by an increasingly fervent local and national fan base. Defined by their energetic, driving, mainstream brand of music, and flavored with a fresh pop/rock and pop/punk mixture, they have captured the attention of thousands of listeners along the entire East Coast and beyond. 

With their highly-anticipated self-titled album, the Philadelphia-based band has exceeded all expectations with their collection of hook-driven, inspiring songs. The band collaborated and recorded with six-time Grammy winning producer Glenn Barratt of MorningStar Studios, as well as Kory Gable of Pin-Up Studios. 

The Philadelphia-based quintet began when keyboardist/vocalist, Mat Rivers, joined long-time friend and lead-singer Mike Monroe. Communion was born in the Summer of 2006 at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club. Founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), former Cherbourg bassist Kevin Jones, and acclaimed producer Ian Grimble, it quickly grew into a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, providing a first independent platform for the freshest young artists on London’s circuit and beyond.

The monthly night has now seen the likes of Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, JJ Pistolet and Peggy Sue all grace the stage from the very start of their fledgling careers.  It has also helped spawn the first steps for a diverse range of artists from Kurran and the Wolfnotes to Alan Pownall, The Holloways to King Charles, and Example to Josh Weller, all in keeping with the eclectic ethos that Communion has come to stand for.

Since its humble beginnings from a West London basement bar, Communion has branched out across the UK to Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, York, Oxford, Dublin and Belfast, and internationally to Sydney and New York City.  Communion is now working closely with the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, The Camden Crawl, HMV’s Next Big Thing series, The NME awards, Belfast’s Open House Festival, and many more clubs and companies who all have a hand in promoting exciting new music to as big and broad an audience as possible.

Taking the blueprint of what has made Communion work so well, Communion Records was founded in September 2009 priding itself on creating a close working family in which to allow artists to develop at their own pace. Production on most releases is handled by Ben, Kevin and Ian themselves, involving other artists from the roster in the recording process for that community vibe.  Communion has released, or is currently primed to release records by Marcus Foster, Matthew and the Atlas, Matt Corby, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Pete Roe, Rachel Sermanni and Andrew Davie.  The label’s debut compilation record was released in April 2010 on beautiful gatefold vinyl, featuring rare recordings by Mumford and Sons, Johnny Flynn, Alessi’s Ark, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, JJ Pistolet (now of The Vaccines), and many, many more.

Looking for fresh ways to compile music that involves everyone, Communion took over the infamous Flowerpot venue in London’s Kentish Town in July 2010 to create a week-long series of collaborative recordings. Beyond the regular pool of young Communion friendly artists, established acts such as Angus and Julia Stone, Sarah Blasko, Mt. Desolation, Lissie, Damien Rice, and Kill It Kid alongside scores of other artists all wrote and performed together – The resulting opus is due for release on triple CD in March 2011, and is the finest example yet of the open-door policy of Communion’s creativity.

Continuing to evolve out of the sometimes faceless vacuum of the music industry for honest, independent champions of good music, Communion endeavours to fill that gap and push the boundaries of music well into 2011 and beyond.
