To feel Philia is to experience a fondness, especially an abnormal love for a specific thing. For Wisconsin based producer, vocalist and artist Nathan Blanck, this is at the core of what it means to make music for him as well as how he hopes those listening to him will feel. For Nathan, Philia represents the love we can experience through sound, and the joy of existing in communities that share music. The idea that music can bring people together, it can save people. Philias music isn’t only made for instant gratification, it’s also made to be listened to years later, provoke and cherish those memories that created who we are.   

Blanck’s early musical influences, singing in church and various vocal ensembles, were defined by community and the sharing of songs. He is a self-taught producer and avid explorer of all musical genres. Discovering electronic music through artists such as Flume, Odesza, and Aphex Twin, Nathan felt distinctively drawn to the genre as it challenged much of his classical upbringing and offered a space free of boundaries and ripe for experimentation. With his focus on granulated distorted dissonance, airy vocals, and lush large synths, Philia’s music is sure to invoke inner wandering. While also producing serotonin filled thoughts and friendly environments for all to listen to together.

The essence of his artist project Philia, is not just that of pushing musical boundaries but also of understanding sound and production at its core. Philia is making a name for himself by combining the world of electronic unpredictability with comforting resolutions that will keep you guessing what’s next.
