No More (Collab w Syntaleta-remastered)

The title "Ballad for Alma" reminded me of an episode in the Book of Mormon, where the son of a presiding high priest went among the people, telling them to disbelief his father. Here I imagined what could be the father thoughts, with a small meditation on the nature of hope, faith, and charity.

BALLAD FOR ALMA

No one wants to be alone,
either in bliss or sorrow.
Angels above invite.
Demons from hell entice.

In the great fight for the souls
you chose to disbelieve it all,
join the skeptics, praise  the world,
delighted to play with fire.

Hope is belief and desire.
New hearts are given to some.
Beliefs are our choice alone.

And then there's faith.
Faith is more than wishfull thinking.
Faith is hope with revelation
from the subtle mighty voice
that can burn, but cannot lie.

Thus I trust that voice to warn you.
Then you'll see and then you'll cry.
From the deepness of despair,
in the dire and lonely night,
all will seem beyond repair.
But what I told you will come to mind.
And then you'll remember the name you should call,
and it's going to be allright.

There's no charity in darkness:

In Solitude by Syntaleta/Collab version (Feat. Neno J. on electric guitars)

Although quite simple to record, it took me a few weeks to write down a text and sing it over this beautiful guitar piece from Neno J. I used the original title as an inspiration for the text.

Circle of Circles 

Planets move in the dome of stars in surprising ways.
Sometimes forward, sometimes backward  in the celestial orb.

Since perfect circles are the only way of gods,
Ptolemy used circles within circles 
to explain those planetary retrogressions.
That was such a powerful idea 
that Fourier would later use.
Indeed, any periodic smooth motion
can be described by a large enough set of epicycles.

And yet, it all became history, 
thanks to Copernic, Kepler and Newton.
The epicycles were cast out from heaven
by the Occam's razor curse.
And I'm trying to learn the sobering lesson:
Everything gets simpler 
when we don't place ourselves in the center.

Your perfect circles, woman, are the chosen shape of gods.
But will the Fast Fourier Transform ever explain your beauty?

I watch you move in this world of scars in surprising ways.
But what is forward and what is backward in this oblivious maze?

Hello everyone, 
a while ago I came across Layna's page here on Soundcloud. I was amazed by her beautiful voice. I am very happy that she agreed to my request for a collaboration. So we re-recorded the traditional "Ash Grove", which she had sung before. I gave the piece an orchestral arrangement that includes the typical Celtic instruments. In addition, there was a new intro and outro.

I am incredibly happy that I was able to work with such a wonderful singer. Thank you very much, Layna!

The first cold winds of Autumn arrived last evening and with them a time of reflection. If Spring is the season of "Hello", surely Autumn is the season of "Goodbye".  The farewells can be bittersweet, whether to a fragrant garden or fragrant friendship, but the bitter lasts only a moment but the sweet remains in our remembering.

The Last To Know

When I was in infant school my class was a ragbag bunch of scruffy working class urchins, self included.  National health glasses held together with band aids, hand-me-down clothes, bruises, jam sandwiches.  There was a kid in that class who was very quiet, often absent.  Good at reading.  Good at running.  Kept himself to himself.  Sat at the back, never made eye contact.  Never put his hand up.

Turns out he was very deaf and spending a lot of time in hospital with operations of various sorts.

When he was seven he was given a hearing aid - huge thing the size of a transistor radio that sat in his shirt pocket.  The story I heard was that when he first went home with it his mam took him for a walk down a country lane to try it out.  He was very upset that it was obviously broken - all sorts of odd scratching and buzzing noises.

They eventually realised that he was hearing insects for the first time.  

Imagine that.

Often wonder what became of him.

A symphony of crushing silence 
Played his timpani of weathered clay

Inputs built of aural mud are clinically desensitised
Muffled whispers trundle under cobbled skies of grizzled grey

Social cripple loner ‘neath a joker’s plastic smiles
Silent rippled mannequin, cartoon audio spastic child

A trip to day-sound from his silent night
Demolishing all his expectations

He crept into the astronomy lab

Abd then he pushed the button that was labeled send
And message blasted out into the heavens
And then he went home and he climbed into to his bed
And this is what his message said

We’ve got the best cheeseburgers in the milky way
So come on down and have one today
And if you’re still hungry we’ve got hot apple pie
You need to put this on your bucket list as something to eat before you die
So why don’t you beam yourself down and give it a try

In the morning he woke up to a shaking bed
And when he looked out his window the sky was red
From the fiery thrusters on the bottom of a flying saucer ship
And Ted realized that he was looking at the next big thing
There’d be no more waiting for the interstellar phone to ring

The flying saucer landed and strange aliens came out 
And a purple one with tentacles started to shout
He was pointing at what appeared to be his stomach
He said bring us some cheeseburgers and slices of apple pie
And it better taste good or your entire planet will die

But they enjoyed their food and asked for more
And then they left to fight a war
Against another planet that didn’t have any cheeseburgers.
And this is how first contact with aliens was made
And Ted was honored with a very big parade

And every single day more and more ships came 
And the reaction to the food was always the same.
Satisfied aliens of all shapes and sizes
And the earth became known as the cheeseburger planet.
And Ted married a sexy green alien named Janet.

Another tune from a few years ago. I wish it had no resonance with current events but sadly it seems that ignorance, fear, and hate have grown and been given license even more so than when it was originally written.
