@melquiadesmusic delivers his debut solo album which we’re told ‘’explores dreams, the unconscious and the intertwining of feelings and memory. Interspersed field recordings lend to the fragmented way people recall experiences. It is a narrative in which the listener is encouraged to attach their own thoughts and impressions to the soundscapes.

’Since 2014, Alex Albrecht and Sean La’Brooy, better known to most as Albrecht La’Brooy, have released an array of material on Apollo Records, Scissor & Thread, their own Analogue Attic Recordings and more, always leaning towards the deep, hypnotic and emotive side of House, Techno and Ambient. The project was designed as a gapless album, intended to be listened from start to finish and welcomes a number of collaborations throughout with the likes of 30/70's Allysha Joy and Ziggy Zeitgeist (ZFEX), Thomas Gray, Carla Oliver (Badskin) as well as long-time musical partner and co-label head, Sean La'Brooy.

HOLOVR - Melancholy Of Time
'Melancholy of Time' came out of a period exploring ways of producing and recording outside of the grid-based structures that I was previously working with.  I wanted to strip it back to what I often find to be the emotional core of a piece of electronic music - ebbing and flowing synth pads - but to push and pull it a bit to create a slight disjointedness, unpredictability and shop-worn texture, as if it's coming apart and fraying, yet retaining a sonic clarity.

I recorded it live using looped and layered synth phrases, underpinned by a layer of hiss and pin-prick textures. 

I find reflections on time and its passing to be a recurrent feature of my work, both in a more straightforward way of harking back to music of a certain period or pieces of equipment but also in a more abstract sense of creating a feeling where time doesn't matter - a deep feeling of now; that escape that you find in music and other ecstatic experiences. Though of course we’re always in - and running out of - time, and hence the melancholy.

The Cabala (Mirror of Art & Nature) remains one of the most fascinating, beautiful and problematic alchemical texts of the early seventeenth century. Its short text, partly in verse-form, describes three steel mirrors forged by the heat of the sun and revealed by the grace of God, which are at least partly metaphorical. When combined together, these mirrors - which reflect the Paracelsian triumvirate of mercury, salt and sulphur - reveal the great Arcanum, or secret of alchemical transmutation.
