01. Wires

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of our crowd-funded album "Cantrips", we wanted to share some secret songs. One of the tiers on Kickstarter leading up to the production of "Cantrips" was a custom song. People would send us notes and we got to work on creating their song the best we could.

Now, one year later, we got the yourname.wav songs mastered so we can share them with the world (with the permission of those who bought the songs, of course!)

The first track is "Wires", just a fun, dancy love song fitting for the fun and dancing Danielle Marie S. Danielle is a wonderful, giving, sweet person who has supported Vaporeyes in so many ways. We don't usually make songs that are super happy, but you make us super happy. Mostly our singer/keys player Jonas. 

So much love to everyone who has supported us, for "Cantrips" and anything else we have ever endeavored to do.

02 Ian's Song

The second song is for Ian Doherty, a top tier human who has been there supporting Vaporeyes before we deserved it or were any good at all..

Vaporeyes' singer/keyboardist and Ian met in a very interesting way. They are both a little obsessed with the horror video game series Silent Hill, and connected on a Silent Hill fan forum years ago. They had each shared some music in a general discussion part of the forum and discovered they were both in Syracuse. It wasn't long after before Vaporeyes and Lee Terrace, Ian's band at the time, shared a bill. The rest is history.

When Ian backed us on Kickstarter and ordered the custom song, he pretty much let us do our thing. What we promised was at least a couple minutes. What we came out with was a 12 minute long journey through Silent Hill with Ian as the protagonist. 

The music in the Silent Hill is always incredible and unique, composed throughout the years by the incredible Akira Yamaoka. We did our very best to retain the style and feel of Yamaoka-San's Silent Hill music for Ian's very own Silent Hill journey. Glad you made it out, brother!

03 Diggin' Around

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of our crowd-funded album "Cantrips", we wanted to share some secret songs. One of the tiers on Kickstarter leading up to the production of "Cantrips" was a custom song. People would send us notes and we got to work on creating their song the best we could.

The third song was made for bassmaster Shannon's Aunt Serah, who requested that we make a song as a tribute to her late husband, Tom. Tom was a gold miner in the Caribou mountains in Colorado, and he spent his life building his mining business from the ground up. By the time he passed, he was a respectable and well-known figure in the Colorado gold mining community.

This song started as an improv jam, but after laying it down we realized it had a natural form that fit the story of Tom well. The first section is a blues-y but upbeat jam that to Shannon encapsulated the toil of working under the earth, keeping your nose to the grindstone, and pushing through fatigue. Pat Tato + Evil Key's verses (Pat and Jonas) speak to the dream of getting out of the mine, even though a part of him loved it... and the love he had for his family, and Shannon's aunt.

The song transitions into a melancholic major key ending that Shannon felt symbolized Tom's spirit looking down on everyone he loved, blessing their endeavors and watching over them, while alo communicating a sense of freedom not found in life and corporeal existence. Shannon added the closing line in the song that really nails home this feeling.

We thought this was a fitting grand finale. Chris Rhoads (stage name Chris Ames) has been a supporter of Vaporeyes and the whole of the Syracuse music scene for many years.

Our guitarist Pat met Chris while working at Guitar Center and their friendship blossomed over debates on whether the Telecaster or Stratocaster is the perfect guitar.

Chris asked for a rock 'n roll song in A minor and I think we delivered with a sort of raw lyrical honesty.
