Just like that we're back at it with the next FRUIT BOWL mix series, this weeks heat comes kickin' from none other than UTILITY (@utilitycatalogue) 🌶

Utility is a Sydney/Eora-based music producer, artist & founder of local label Trackwork (@trackwork) 🚆  With musical roots much deeper than you’d know UTILITY has uncovered and embraced a raw, real and palpable roughness and brought it from the fringes, to the front row. The ability to present a cross section of a world that is tough, mean and real in a way that is considered and honest has deemed Utility to be, in our opinion, one of the most forward thinking and cutting edge artists to rouse, bringing with it a huge amount of talent from all over Australia 🚨 🚓 

Known for icy, hard hitting and left-field production, he’s produced music for artists including HK x Rick, MA Rated, Clariyah, Gino October, Sky’High, and Lil Jaye & Eco$ystem’s ‘Block Hotter’ which featured on Apple Music Hip Hop playlist The New Australia and was performed on the Juice World Tour in 2019. 

In 2019 Utility & close collaborator T. Moritmoto released Nexus Destiny featuring a collection of 60 arpeggios made entirely with software synthesisers, released on Melbourne-based label Sumac. Releases on Trackwork produced by Utility include T Breezy’s 2360, Sevy & Bayang’s notfromhere (with Sevy’s Ting nominated for an FBi SMAC Award), and Snoee Badman’s #3badman which received international airplay and a recent feature article in the Saturday Paper written by Mahmood Fazal. In collaboration with AVTV & animator Kyan Woodpower Trackwork produced & released a 3 part animated mini-series to celebrate the release of #3badman in 2020 directed by Snoee Badman & Utility. Earlier this year Utility performed with T Breezy, Walkerboy, Sevy & Bayang at Sydney Opera House’s Barrabuwari event alongside a next-level lineup including Barkaa, DJ Plead and Kobie Dee.

Future work includes projects with VV, Doe Ramada, Jesswar, Kobi Spice, and international collaborations with Bekah CC (US), and 27Pabs (UK), alongside new visual projects through Trackwork TV including an upcoming rap / cooking show, an animated crime / comedy series and recent Trackwork-curated mix series Mixwork. 👨‍🍳

For Episode 37 we meet the inimitable @Kush_Jones. 

The Bronx native and producer is blowing up in the Electronic dance music scene for his sound that’s rooted in Chicago’s seismic and kinetic vibration of Footwork. But we’d be remiss to label Kush as just a Footwork artist. As a member of the Juke Bounce Werk collective, Kush’s music shapeshifts every project, drawing elements of Jungle, House, and Acid, all while keeping your feet moving. 

Kush is on a mission. Since 2018, the seminal producer has been churning out his genre traversing Strictly 4 My CDJZ series that showcases exactly what he’s all about, and with 12 down so far, we’re in for a ride because he plans on dropping 40 altogether.

However, even with his music skyrocketing to new heights, Kush remains humble, often seen as a voice of reason within the dance music community for voicing his opinions on the systemic barriers still in place for many artists of color in the industry.
