The Manhattan Detention Complex, better known as “The Tombs” looms 10-plus stories over lower Manhattan. But on the ground floor, you can order a BLT. Centre Finest Deli attracts people from all walks of the criminal justice system. Ahmed Aburadi, the store’s cashier, offers them a bit of advice--or at least a belly laugh. Aaron Brezel has more.

When Open AI, a Silicon Valley non-profit released GPT-2, they made some suggestions about its potential uses for their new language model. One was to create an unstoppable army of talkative robots to drive discourse on the internet and destroy the world.

Another was to serve as a writing assistant – to help people overcome writer’s block. 

We unpack the later with three Columbia University experts: Chris Kedzie and Katy Gero, PhD candidates from the computer science departments, and Sophie Brett-Chin, who's earning an MFA concentrating in creative non-fiction.
