At its heart, it tells the story of a relationship where one partner seeks pain and roughness — possibly as a way to feel loved or to reenact old wounds — while the other partner refuses to cross that line, instead offering to protect rather than harm even when asked.  The song is about a way to redefine love away  from destructive cycles — choosing to support someone through their pain without exacerbating it, and demonstrating love through kindness and respect rather than aggression and domination. The song is dedicated to Liette and to all those who suffer from PTSD who are in need of healing.

It is a deep and respectful homage to the musical vision of bands like Deep Purple (for the soulful Hammond organ and explosive dynamics), Manfred Mann's Earth Band (for the sound-painting synthesizers and anthemic choruses), and Marillion (for the courage to tell complex, suite-like stories).
