if he hadn't missed his bus
he might have missed the crime

they found him in his underwear and one black sock 
the coroner said the time of death was two o'clock
 his neck was bent and showed the signs
of multiple contusions 
his face was bruised and staring eyes
showed signs of his confusion
 oh can this really be, happening to me 
cruelty of fate, the irony of time

if he hadn't missed his bus
he might have missed the crime 
one inch to the left or right or just one minute late 
and he'd have walked off down the street
and missed his first blind date 
or maybe you and he could never really see 
the cruelty of fate, the irony of time

victims never know their fate
they really don't suspect it 
but when they do it's much too late 
to know is to expect it 
what's that sound, do i hear someone 
laughing quite insanely 
no one gets out of here alive
your fate can be seen plainly
