Life is short, and Nathan Oliver is not going to spend it waiting.

After 15 years and three albums of brilliantly crooked rock, this onetime bedroom project of band namesake Nathan Oliver has quietly grown into one of the best kept secrets of the North Carolina music scene. And now with their fourth album, Thank You For Your Generosity, the Chapel Hill three-piece has returned with a journey through grief that is by turns contemplative, explosive and — because it’s still a Nathan Oliver record — fun as hell. As with prior outings, Thank You showcases Oliver’s catchy, pop-forward songcraft in the vein of Alvvays and The Love Language, though cut from a slightly more ragged cloth. Still present are his irresistible shout-along choruses and burrow-in-your-brain guitar hooks (Exhibit A: “Everybody’s Swimming”) set against the stop-start dynamics of influences like The Pixies and Enon.

But this album is something more.

Oliver began writing what would become Thank You after the death of his brother in late 2017. The pain, confusion and embrace of his brother’s optimistic spirit gave shape to this collection — the title of which is both a play on the formalities of grief and a genuine expression of thanks.  It opens with "Generous Seas,” a piece of instrumental scene-setting: waves of guitar washing over you in reverse, ringing in your ears, conjuring a state of rumination. Fade into “Isle of Youth,” a searching swirl punctuated by sharp melodic bursts.  Emerging from that place is “Everybody’s Swimming ,” a classic Nathan Oliver stomp that breaks into an exuberant pogo-stick chorus.

The album’s centerpiece, “Even If You Go,” is an aching letter across time, culminating in a stripped-down final verse that stops everything and lands in the gut. It’s a timeless song that feels like it’s always existed (attn: TV music programmers).

Bookending that song are “Air Control” and “Stand In Line,” two off-kilter rockers bursting with loopy hooks and acid humor.  And then comes the album’s climax, the tense, tortured “Runaway.” You might say it sounds a bit like The Strokes playing tug-of-war with Unwound — though any comparison fails to capture the song’s unique power, how it maps so closely to a feeling of desperate panic.

The denouement, “A Tangent In Time,” is more peaceful, though unresolved. 
Something of a cosmic dial tone carries you through its swaying “whoas,” marking a gentle goodbye to a past that’s never quite over.  

If Thank You sounds more organic and cohesive than past Nathan Oliver releases, that’s by design. Unlike Oliver’s usual practice of crafting in private and bringing to the band, the songs on Thank You were fleshed out and fine-tuned over months of rehearsal with band members Joe Caparo (bass, guitar, pianet) and Brad Porter (drums, percussion). Their chemistry predates Caparo and Porter’s addition to the Nathan Oliver lineup: The two have backed songwriter Brett Harris and played together in Some Army; and Caparo has played with Nathan Oliver since 2017, way back when live shows were a thing.

Recording began in October of last year at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium in Kernersville, N.C., with Missy Thangs (Reese McHenry, Wye Oak, Ex Hex, H.C. McEntire) in the engineer’s seat, and continued with additional tracking at Thread Audio in Raleigh. While touring is off the table at the moment, before long (2021?!) Nathan Oliver will return to the same stages they’ve shared with Neil Halstead, Bombadil and Des Ark.

Philly native, Todd Zamostien, is the heart, hands, soul and guts behind Bastards of Earle -- Rock 'n' Roll, Americana, Folk and Alt-Country in the sweet and crumbling tradition of The Replacements, Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams, Mike Ness, Gram Parsons and its namesake, Steve Earle.  He finds solace in the drunken musings of curmudgeons, Tom Waits and Charles Bukowski, and in the dissection of discord and reality inspired by Milan Kundera and Pablo Picasso.  Beauty is found in the scratchy earnestness of Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, in the clever wordplay of Elvis Costello and Tom Robbins and in the angst and honesty of The Clash and Nirvana.  Zamostien’s songs take inspiration from the city around him—its beating, broken hearts; its tender and often crooked smiles; and the constant flirtations leading him onto the other side of the tracks, to the edges of town and beyond.

OhYeah!? write disco, funk, and anything with vibes. 

Oh Yeah!? Pitched between the pulsing swagger of 70's and 80's disco and the melodic hook sensibilities of soul and motown, this new collective are set on bringing some retro vibes back to the fore front of modern music. 

Combining authentic funk laced basslines and guitar riffs set against the backdrop of hard hitting beats and sleazy synths has culminated in an original take on a familiar sound that is soon to be ruling the radio playlists. 

Featuring guest vocals by Joel Culpepper, Aina Roxx and Fleur, singers with unique voices that hold up among the greats. Oh Yeah!? 's EP is all about capturing a sound that they felt had been missing and doing it their own way.

At it's core are two producers Rich De Rosa and Jamie Stewart who began collaborating whilst working for DnB chart topper DJ Fresh on Tour. Rich on guitar duties and Jay as the MC. 
Although they came from quite different musical backgrounds, Rich having performed on guitar with acts such as Example, Rita Ora, Ms Dynamite, Sian Evans. And Jay with EZ Rollers, Pendulum, Nero and Camo & Crooked as well as countless other DnB artists. They soon found they shared a passion for all things groove based and started writing and recording their ideas on the tour bus at a prolific rate. Once back on home turf they enlisted the production skills of dance music extraordinaire Alix Depaux, (AKA AlixPerez, AKA ARP10) who's unique approach helped to hone the Oh Yeah!? sound and create a record that 
manages to be both authentically disco and progressive in its own right.

Oh Yeah!? is not just an homage to the classic funk breaks, guitar riffs, and sweet-sounding vibes of Disco, it’s the group’s own take on it, a stamp. Keep those eyes and ears peeled for Oh Yeah!? as they they will be gracing the airwaves and dance floors very soon.!

JUNK. formed in October 2013 in York, UK. Eschewing technical ability in favour of short, jangly hooks, JUNK. blend male / female vocals a la The Pastels and The Vaselines, with the Big Muff moments of Dinosaur Jr.

Following their well received download 'All I Really Wanna Do (Is Baby Get Drunk With You)', JUNK. released their debut E.P. 'Car' in July 2014 via CHUD Records. Coming in at around twelve minutes, 'Car' races through four tracks of trashy indie pop.

In September 2014 the band contributed to Art Is Hard Records' cassette store day release  'Jam Kids: 20 years since Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain'. JUNK. kick off the homage to Pavement's seminal album with a raucous cover of 'Silence Kid'.

In early 2015 the band released their second E.P. 'Liquorice', which was followed by a string of UK tour dates and a slot at Indietracks Festival. In September 2015 JUNK. released their single 'Dennis Wilson', one of the more mellow tracks from 'Liquorice'.

JUNK. are currently working on EP number 3 with tour dates in London and the North of England booked for this autumn.

philthy is a 20 year old DJ and dubstep and drum n bass producer living in manchester. he has been making drum and bass since he was 16 but with a background of playing around with loops and samples previous to that. after hearing Fabriclive 37, philthy began experimenting with dubstep and has never looked back on either genre since. 

his first real success was his remix of doctor P's sweet shop and then has recently started to flourish in the past year.

"I like making my own music, but I'm better at remix's, they take less musical thinking, but a hell of a lot more inspiration! I like that challenge to make someones track better too. i just hope I can make my own tracks better now!"

his influences include eptic, the UK jumpup scene, cammo and crooked, koan sound, funtcase, dirtyphonics and many more, but also with a strong heavy metal background which you can sometimes hear in his tracks.

philthy lives in manchester and studies sound engineering and design at the School of Sound Recording. he hopes to be a successful DJ saying "I want to be at the stage where venues or event creators actually ask me to play, thats more important than ever getting signed or making money; or be at the point where a fan is as enthusiastic about my music than i have been with my favorite artists! that is a long way in the future though!"

Smith & Jones are a duo hailing from Bathurst and Tamworth respectively. Made up of keyboard player and vocalist Abby Smith, with guitarist, harmonica player and vocalist Sophie Jones, they met at a much loved record store in 2013 where they bonded over a love of classic country and blues, and spent far too much of their hard-earned money. During this time they established The CanBeltos Choir, a Bathurst and Orange based community choir, which saw them nominated for Young Australian’s of the Year for 2015.
Though their small-town roots had similarities, their music upbringing couldn’t be more contrasting. Sophie Jones grew up on a blend of classic country and old school rock (think Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles) as well as Australian legends such as Kevin Bennett, who she saw play many time as a kid growing up in Tamworth. Soul music and jazz (as well as endless Joni Mitchel) were Abby’s very first influences as a child, and she can recall staying home from school to learn sing like Aretha or Nina. Together, these influences have been the basis of Smith & Jones’s charm, and though their voices offer their own unique appeal when solo, it is together that they find their true expressive power. Never ones to take themselves too seriously, they also have a passion for blue-grass covers of 90’s songs (think R Kelly’s ‘Ignition’ with a harp solo!) During their time together they have played countless gigs, supported Dragon at the Crooked Mountain Festival, played shows with the likes of Archie Roach, and sang as session vocalists on Toyota Star Maker Mickey Pye’s debut album. They also played sold out gigs with their show ‘Rumours,’ a Fleetwood Mac tribute night with guitarist Matt Ferry.
The past six months they have spent writing and developing a more mature and sensitive sound to when they started. Though their roots will always remain in the foundations of country music, their originals have found an undefinable energy of their own. Part classic country ballads, part sweet jazz standards, and often with a tongue firmly planted in their cheek, their beauty is in their harmonic simplicity and lyrical power.
