ELECTRO CUMBIA MIX January 2025

The original song "You're The Best" from the original Karate Kid (1984) has been one of my favorite songs since childhood.  The desire to make an EDM remix is literally what prompted me to start looking into music production at all.  

The Karate Kid series is near and dear to me.  With the final season of Cobra Kai on the horizon, I felt like it was time to bring this song back with a modern twist.  I hope to have done it justice in the eyes of fellow Karate Kid fans.

Sander Gorter, geboren in '82 en sinds een jaartje of 14 jaar woonachtig in Lelystad, is zoals velen altijd met muziek bezig geweest en heeft zijn DJ skills en muzikale kennis al in zijn jonge jaren opgedaan. Thuis, door zijn werk, stappen in clubs en lange nachten in zijn home-studio. Een niet te stillen honger naar muziek. Van groep acht 90's Dance, de eerste House, Hiphop en van Mainstream tot wat er thuis op de radio werd gedraaid, zelfs de evolutie van Hardstyle en Early HC heeft hem muzikaal gevormd.

Alles wat hem heeft aangegrepen in zijn 42 jarige journey voelde hij oprecht. Nu grijpt hij ook weer immer en altijd terug naar zijn roots. Funky sounds, zware basslines, punchy kicks en Groovy tunes is waar hij voor warm loopt. Inspiratie is wel wat hem muzikaal drijft en daar ontbreekt het hem niet aan het afgelopen jaar. Momenteel gepakt door Soulfull House tot toch wel redelijk Strickly, al dan niet Funky, maar altijd teruggrijpend of een reminder naar de Oldschool sound. En soms zelfs, zoals deze keer, into the deep.

Sander is puur en streeft ernaar zijn aanstekelijke energieke vibe middels zijn set naar het publiek over te brengen. Geniet van deze bijna 1 uur durende Deep House set exclusief voor Bascul en maak kennis met zijn veelzijdigheid aan grooves.

This vinyl mix is very special to me. It brings together several important and distinct periods and moments of my life related to music, which I’m telling shortly about further. It’s about kindness and emotion, about keeping our sanity during 1000+ days of the ongoing full-scale war.

Period: Late 90s/early 2000s. Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, Cattaneo, Pole Folder, Satoshi Tomiie, and Renaissance and Global Underground compilations listened to death.

Moment: December 2016, Brave Factory—not yet the large-scale festival it is today, but a party on the two Closer club floors. Third Floor, Jane Fitz, Function-One, and a mind blown to pieces by what sound can do to you.

Stage: A phase that has began 4 years ago when I started collecting vinyl and playing music myself. Over these 4 years, I’ve dreamed of recording something like this. The tracklist chronology in some sense symbolizes the evolution of my personal taste—from the old classic sound to the freshly baked releases in the second half of the mix ending with a return to the classics.
