What does your soul desire? What does it take to make it real? And if you do, was it worth the cost? 

Inspired by Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" and some of its countless adaptations, "Invocation" is the first single from my forthcoming record "Haunts & Wants"
(Out on Oct. 6th). 

Sonically influenced by classic soul music, the track features dazzling backing vocals by Yona Marie and dramatic horns by Swedish trio TrippTrappTrull. A special shout-out to Jeff Martin for letting me play his bass on this one. 

When I was making 2018's Congeries, I originally intended to include "Invocation" as it fit with the theme of magical creation shared with songs like "Feathertop," another supernatural "monster" creation story. But I wasn't quite happy with all the lyrics, so fittingly like the song's speaker, I "labored" on. When I finished writing it, it became clear that it would be the opener of a new album, one that's been my passion project for some five years now. 

As I entered the recording phase at the start of 2022, I enlisted the aid of Bryan Ciliberto, whose efforts producing, mixing, and performing on the album have been invaluable. A tremendous thank you to Bryan for all he did to keep the candle glowing on our quest for magic.

Dancing On The Moon

Efforts were made to paint the artist Carravagio whilst he made a sketch by candlelight. The end of the piece has the candle puffing once or twice, before going out. Leaving the great Italian artist, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, alone in  complete darkness. Unfinished sketch in hand. Pencil still flowing smoothly, tracing the air above fine amber paper.
