Follow The Map (2015) The Social Distance

This is a song that started with Ian (IPG1 aka Lou) and his amazing vocal stem, of which I really identify with the lyrics. He has a plethora of vocal stems, so if you're interested in making a hip hop song, you did hit him up. He shared this psychiatrist l particular one with Tez (Llanpsych), who put a beat and guitar on it. Tez then sent it to me, and I added the bass and the synth. Then Tez put the solo part in there along with the effects. he mixed and produced it, and an excellent job he always does, too. This is my first foray into making hip hop, though I've listened to plenty. Hopefully there will be more to come.

Off the Rails (Kaerian and Laar / Muterial Open Collab)

Blueprint for track that became 'Sandycove Milk'.

Inspired by wondrous music by Conin, whose track 'Kitty's Wake' reminded of the rich clay of Joyce's 'Finnegan's Wake'. This track, about the opening pages of Joyce's Ulysses, borrows coffee spoons, forever those of T.S. Eliot, in an effort to add sweet milk...drawn from the milk-well of honeyed Sandycove.  The lyric speaker is, notionally, Stephen Daedalus. For practical purposes, the lyric speaker is James Joyce himself. His aim? To hit Haines for a guinea [a pre-decimal unit of currency] before heading to France on a ferry. Whilst Haines still feels guilty (sheepish) about having fired his pistol at an imaginary cat he thought he saw in the fireplace in the Martello tower in Sandycove (now the Joyce Museum....a sacred...magical place, whose attendant Joyce scholars told me about the Haines' imaginary cat episode....it is all true...yet also dovetails eerily with the first chapter of Ulysses).

The reference to Haines having consumed Absinthe is a narrative fiction, invented to offer an explanation for his dangerous behaviour. No peer reviewed evidence capable of demonstrating Absinthe has hallucinogenic properties, exists, to my knowledge.

Here's another in the series of semi-live recordings with Nat Daniels. Nat took an ancient recording I did back in the 80's and salvaged it, embellished it into something that gave me a really pleasant surprise. The song delivers a simple message about overlooking the most important aspects of our time in this life, often too willing to fall into step with what everyone else seems to be doing. Don't lose sight of the true relationships, the true friends and the simple, real connections. My thanks to Nat for her usual abilities to transform anything into a special experience.
