THE CRIMES OF JIANG ZEMIN is a soul-stirring account of 3 women who were brutally tortured in Chinese prisons because they refused to give up their practice of Falun Dafa.  After narrowly escaping being killed for their organs, they fled to Canada and joined the worldwide movement to bring former head of the Chinese Communist Party, Jiang Zemin, to justice.
 
Producer Kerry Foster is a singer-songwriter and human rights writer living in Echo Bay Ontario.  Her song ‘Returning to the Ancient Home’ is featured in the documentary.  Producer Hershy He is a journalist for the ‘Vision Times’ newspaper and host of ’That Chinese Show’ on CJSF 90.1 FM in Burnaby British Colombia.

In Daoism, cultivation practice is called “returning to the true man.”  In the human world, we are contaminated with all kinds of false values and emotional baggage that cover up our original nature and inherent goodness.  Falun Dafa is an ancient Chinese self-cultivation discipline involving gentle exercise, meditation, and clear teachings on the rectification of character.  In 1999 the Chinese Communist Party launched a billion dollar, worldwide, hate-propaganda campaign, calling Falun Dafa an “evil cult,” and spreading spectacular lies in order to annihilate the practice.  In spite of a violent and ongoing suppression, Falun Dafa is practiced by over 100 million people in over 100 countries across the world.  Dafa means “great law of the universe;” truthfulness compassion forbearance, the original nature of all life… the path of 'returning to the ancient home.'

Returning (to the ancient home)

The Communist Party of China has caused the death of more people than both world wars put together, and more people than all the previous communism combined.  As early as kindergarten, citizens are forced to join the Young Pioneers, the Youth League, and finally Party Membership, putting the blood of 80 million innocents on their hands.  In 2004 the truth about the CCP’s history of killing was distributed across China in a publication called “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” which was later released as an award-winning book and documentary.  Thus began the Tuidang (quit CCP) Movement.  Since that time, Falun Dafa practitioners have helped over 300 million people renounce their oath of membership to the most genocidal dictatorship in all of human history, thereby disassociating themselves from the crimes of their government, reclaiming their humanity, and, as many now see it, 'erasing the mark of the beast.'

Written for husband and team Sault Ste. Marie racer Ian Dunlop, “The Mission” received a standing ovation at the 2003 Eco-Challenge North American Championship. It played on radio and sold almost 500 copies of the single. It was also featured in a documentary about the race, which turned out to be one of the most gruelling and difficult competitions across some of the most spectacular scenery in all of Ontario. Brother Lawrence Foster made first place. His wife Trish Westman came second. No other teams finished the race.

After recording 'The Mission' I planned to continue with my cd. Instead I went through serious illness, and then severe persecution; I endured envy, abuse, ridicule, and scorn. I have never given up. In this life, and despite all the hardships, each and every one of us came here for a reason, to achieve our destiny. We all came here with a 'mission.'

Like my favourite Canadian poet, I am also part Mohawk.  I performed this song on World Religion Day at the Healing Lodge in the Garden River First Nation.  Visionary Ojibwe elder Dan Pine built the Healing Lodge as a place for healing both the mind and the body.  Ancient cultures believed that the mind and body are connected and that they heal together.  I practice Falun Dafa, an ancient Chinese cultivation practice known for its amazing healing power for both the mind and the body.  It involves gentle exercises, meditation, and advanced teachings for self-improvement.  When I started practicing Falun Dafa I had PTSD and uterine cancer. Within 3 months I was well. I got no treatment or surgery what so ever, and I haven’t seen a doctor since.  Millions of people all across the world have harmonized families and relationships, and recovered from severe illnesses and addictions through practice.

Dovetail Studio is named as such because I have dovetailed my song writing, my human rights writing, and my love of birds, to create music that is deeply moving, profoundly meaningful, and beautiful to listen to. In 2009 my husband Ian and I were the victims of extreme hate crimes in our own country of Canada. Because we refused to remove a human rights sign from our front door, I was fired from my job, we were evicted from our home, and we were forced out of business by our landlord/business landlord. Homeless, deeply in debt, and relying on the food-bank for sustenance, we embarked on a 2½-year lawsuit with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario before receiving our settlement and beginning a new life in Echo Bay Ontario. Our personal experience with persecution and suppression of free speech is what prompted me to become a human rights writer, focusing on the ongoing genocide of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. I began writing for newspapers, I co-produced a radio documentary at Simon Fraser University, and I resumed recording my music. Two of my songs have been featured in documentaries and I am still hard at work completing my album. The beautiful songs and amazing resilience of the birds in our backyard sanctuary continually brought us messages of hope and inspiration throughout the years of hardship we endured. Our now-famous sign still hangs proudly on the front of our new home. It says “Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, FalunDafa.”
