“Asylum of The Birds” emerged as the creation of something strange and different, with the motive of portraying the connection between the human and the natural in such a way as to sculpt this junction through the various sensations that a singular element can convey, an element portrayed by birds. This “asylum” is a chaotic, metaphorical and literal space, where nature and humanity collide in a disconcerting way with the intention of creating a place that seems to exist outside the norms of reality.
The speaker of this thought is Roger Ballen, and “Asylum of The Birds” is inspired by his surrealist documentary, known for its black and white photographs, which explore themes such as the grotesque, the surreal, the psychological and the existential, depicting claustrophobic scenarios and marginalized characters in strange environments, intertwining reality and fiction.
Like this sound composition, the documentary reflects an interest in exploring the unconscious and the dark aspects of the human psyche. The birds represent both freedom and restlessness, creating a complex metaphor for the characters' state of mind.
“Asylum of the Birds” is not only an exploration of sound, but also a philosophical reflection on the human condition, the limits of sanity and the role of art as a means of transcendence.

Kendown é um projeto independente de Mauro Dias, artista com 23 anos natural da Bendada no distrito da Guarda, apresentado em formato Live Act. Este projeto situa-se na vertente de Twilight/Forest. No seu trabalho original Kendown explora sonoridades mais obscuras e cinemáticas fazendo uma junção entre timbres metálicos e orgânicos de forma a criar viagens texturalmente complexas. Kendown é um projeto que explora ideias mais experimentais pelo uso de instrumentos ao vivo e técnicas de sound design pouco convencionais trazendo um carácter único à sua música. Depois de ter concluído o 5° grau em clarinete no conservatório e de ter concluído os estudos na licenciatura em Música Eletrónica e Produção Musical na ESART em Castelo Branco, Kendown trás de diferente as ideias, os conteúdos e as técnicas aprofundadas neste curso para dar a conhecer o melhor do seu trabalho.
