At the end of taking Sarah Belle Reid’s From Patch to Polished course in 2022 we had a listening party for our work.  I created a composition based on the approach she had taught us and dedicated the track to her calling it “All DAW for SBR”.

A number of us through Zoom have stayed in regular contact and we thought it would be fun to have another listening party to celebrate the course starting a year ago.  I decided to create a sequel “All DAW for SBR II”.

I would describe the track as an electronic sound art montage comprising six sections bridged by a common sample.  To create the piece, I mined my live improvised modular recordings made in January and February 2023 and extracted samples from these recordings using Sound Forge.  Some were whole patch recordings others were individual elements of the patch.   The sounds were created either directly from the After Later Audio Benjolin II or from the Benjolin processed through Mutable Instruments granular synthesizer Beads.  In addition, the Benjolin’s Morcom expander pulses were passed through a logic module, randomiser and sequential switch to trigger a WMD Fracture percussion synthesizer and a Noise Engineering Tymp Legio drum module that also produces bass lines from the Benjolin Rungler stepped LFO.

This sound world of samples was then arranged and mixed in Ableton Live to create the composition and the stereo master recording dropped back into Sound Forge to add a little reverb and master the track using the Ozone 10 plugin.  This latest version takes advantage of now having the Ozone Advanced edition of the software.

“Jamuary” challenge, create a jam every day during January.

Day 28’s jam – stays with Soma Laboratory but introduces their Ether product.  Ether enables you to record the electromagnetic field that emanates from our modern world.  The Ether was used as the “microphone” to record the electromagnetic field of my modular rack and studio. I then played the recording through a delay and reverb unit to create a drone like sound where the earlier parts of the recording become layered with later parts.

Mr De Schutter was appointed as the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights by the Human Rights Council at its 43rd session in March 2020. The discussion today focuses on his recent submission to the UN Human Rights Council on eradicating poverty beyond growth.

I am a retiree who has caught the modular synthesiser bug.  The tracks I upload whether experiments or finished tracks are inspired from taking the Sarah Belle Reid "Learning Sound and Synthesis" and "From Patch To Polished" courses over 2020-2022 that have opened my ears to alternative approaches to composition, sound and music.  I am not a traditional musician but an electronic musician and describe my work as electronic sound art.
