This playlist is a collection of my favoured recordings.  All tracks have been created following taking Sarah Belle Reid's online Learning Sound and Synthesis course in early 2021 that cemented my interest in modular synthesis and the follow up From Patch to Polished course I took in Spring 2022.  Most tracks are performances of improvised compositions recorded in real time to two track stereo, some have been arranged and mixed in Ableton Live.  Any mastering has been done in Sound Forge.  Its up to you whether you love or hate what you hear, I make no claims to be a good musician.  But the best art should polarise your view one way or the other, the worst art is that which does nothing for you - elevator music perhaps?

These tracks are various live experiments with a modular system based around either a After Later Audio Benjolin V2 or Make Noise Telharmonic as the main sound source.  They are purely demos inspired by the synth course I have taken.  I use SoundCloud so that other course participants can listen.

Further experiments with the Benjolin Morcom expander trigger outputs.  Three triggers feed the XOR logic function of a Klavis Logica XT.  The XOR triggers feed a WMD Fracture Percussion module that is also being modulated by CV and its output is processed by Beads texture processor.  The Benjolin oscillator 2 triangle wave(that controls the frequency of the triggers) is also modulated by CV to create quiet and busy periods of Fracture activity.  Periodic bursts from the Benjolin's triangle 1, PWM, Low pass and high pass filter outputs put in a periodic performance.

Cosmic Dustbin II

Track created from "mining" old sound recordings, arranging those recordings into a composition and creating a stereo mix in Ableton Live and exporting to Sound Forge for mastering.  Created for the final listening party of the From Patch 2 Polished course and dedicated to our course guide Sarah Belle Reid and my fellow cohorts without whose support, critique, expertise and encouragement this would never have happened.

This is the audio only track from the video premiered on the Modular World Second Anniversary Show that was shown on YouTube on 15 may 2022.  The performance was recorded live direct to two track stereo.

Space Rift Live

This is an alternative "studio" version of Space Rift created from recording each sound layer separately and then arranging and mixing the layers to stereo in Ableton Live with final mastering done in Sound Forge.  The original version was recorded to video live and premiered as part of the Modular World Second Anniversary Show shown on YouTube on 15 May.

In our open mic session it was suggested a 4 on the floor kick drum could underpin the composition.  So I have recorded another live composition and added a Sound Force Linn kick drum processed through a filter where the frequency is modulated periodically by a trigger pulse.  Unfortunately, whilst I think this adds to the track, it cannot be accommodated in my 84hp case!  So may be I will have to have a larger case!

I am a retiree who has caught the modular synthesiser bug.  The tracks I upload whether experiments or finished tracks are inspired from taking the Sarah Belle Reid "Learning Sound and Synthesis" and "From Patch To Polished" courses over 2020-2022 that have opened my ears to alternative approaches to composition, sound and music.  I am not a traditional musician but an electronic musician and describe my work as electronic sound art.
