Heart circumcision

Tachycardia

God's own waiting room

for the one who weeps in the shower

I'm a poet living in Oxford with my husband and three children. My work as a nurse, and my faith strongly influence my writing. 

I wrote my first poem in a stuffy lecture room during a lecture on the book of Psalms as part of my theology diploma back in 2009. Since then, poetry has become one of my primary love languages and I've been looking for ways to share it. 

I must warn you, some of my early work was very rhymey. But I'm still fond of it. They are the offerings of a young creative, stepping out of her comfort zone, being brave and trying something new. Oh, and also, some recordings are rough. The equipment I used back in 2018 when I started to film myself and capture audio was basic. But I'm reluctant to re-record them. Because as well as losing the sound of the dishwasher in the background or the kids playing, I'd also lose the crack in my voice as I processed my Dad's cancer diagnosis or the profound weariness I felt home-schooling, and living apart from Jim in the pandemic. So, enough with the excuses. Here are my poems. Take me as I am. Imperfect. And still learning. Thanks for listening.
