Carl Cox 45 min Boiler Room Ibiza Villa Takeovers DJ Set

These are some samples of music I composed for the Rose Bruford production of Oscar and the Lady in Pink, directed by Arnar Davidsson. 

We follow Oscar, a young boy with leukaemia. In hospital he meets Granny Rose, who makes him believe that for every day he is alive, he goes through ten years of living. 
Each scene of the play shows Oscar in a different decade, something I wanted to mirror through the scene-change music.

It’s common knowledge by now that the name Stephan Hinz is synonymous with cutting-edge, big room anthems and his latest output, the ‘Juncture EP' continues to attest to the consistency of his prowess.
Hinz’ kicks off with the self-titled ‘Juncture’ as massive low end, crisp hats and burly percussion lay the ground work for a delicate and hypnotizing lead forging an impeccable balance between two opposing themes. Changing themes but sticking to his trademark approach ‘Panopticon’ lets the drums do the work. What can almost be considered a tool stands alone as heaving bursts of sonic gold explode through the percussive barrage creating an incredibly versatile tune suited for any occasion. Hinz wraps things up with the beautiful and impassioned ‘Illusion’ where simple but highly effective drum programming carries flawlessly restrained harmonies resulting in a lavish trek into the emotionally charged club moments.

Drumcode has become a label synonymous with some of the most-cutting edge and forward-thinking techno over the last 20 years. Their artists include both emerging and established names, and one of those well recognised is Enrico Sangiuliano. Now announcing the very first concept album of his career.

The prolific Italian producer has been catapulted into the limelight after the runaway success of his past releases, and now Biomorph is born. 

A very special concept album designed to take the listener on a journey of evolution. A musical adaptation describing how biological and technological advances over numerous generations of time have all started from the same first step in our own biological journey.

Divided into 4 parts, Organisms opens with atmospheric tones, gradually blending complex textures and timbres to begin the evolutional process. The beginning of this section combines full sounding arrangements before stripping it all back to basics. From here it dissolves into the atmosphere. Organisms then progresses into a break-beat influenced, down tempo track using synths to add complexity to the straight, broken rhythms.

Galactic, futuristic elements are found in both tracks in Cosmic Forces. Upbeat, groovy, electronic synths resonate, before ‘Hidden T’ brings the tension to get things pumped up with stratospheric swirls and twirls to lay down one of the most mind meltingly deep drops.

Metamorphosis is mysterious, its opening beat is a deep and piercing tone that sends the listener into a sensory awareness of their surroundings before breaking into a fully charged, techno track, with Enrico’s trademark sounds and textures.

All evolution has an ending.

Two Probabilities shows the positive, starting out evocative and emotional, with a gentle harmony, gazing towards a ‘New Dawn’. On the other side of the spectrum lies the negative. This is influenced with a rhythm that articulates the beat of death, mathematical, cold and metallic in texture, it shows the unsustainability of its nature, with a hectic, anxious break beat influenced ending.

German techno mistress Klaudia Gawlas delivers yet another strong release titled MANIFEST including a remix by prolific Scottish producer Edit Select.

The EP maintains a steady flow which builds upon the producer’s dark and hypnotic grooves.

It begins with MARGIN which seems taken from a chase scene of a horror movie and sets the upbeat and tense atmosphere of the EP. Edit Select’s special touch on MARGIN's remix fascinates with its synth soundscapes and adds a more atmospheric and dreamy feel to the original track. MANIFEST picks up where MARGIN left off, with its heavy bass and rumbling drums. Closing track ADDITIONAL creates an even darker vibe with the distorted vocals and the haunting explosive bass and lead lines.

Simina Grigoriu takes on a raw approach on her Una EP, an energy-brimming three-piece centered around a dark techno power anthem, with remixes by Toronto talent Jade and Minus crew member Carlo Ruetz.

From Una’s boilerplate dark intro we're guided into a symphony of arpeggiated strings layered on top of one another, stirring emotions to a whole new level. Adding to the rising tension are impish voices, channeling both the seraphic and the hellish opposites of the supernatural spectrum.

On Carlo Ruetz’ mix, he adds metallic synth lines and hi-hats for a minimal, stripped down yet simmering take on the original.

JADE (CA)’s mix begins with an elasticised lead and glitched out elements, putting more emphasis on the bassline. Murky, yet lively, the rework offers a haunting, after hours-ready alternative to the original.

D-Deck (Alleanza / Phobiq) inserts his life experience in music-making into his remix and totally transforms the track, generating a new existence. This is a 4 AM track, definitely made to move large crowds. Rigorous and stern, yet driving and melodic, it’s based on a solid drum pattern that concludes to an epic buildup where all melodic elements join the harmony and add their own perspective to end-up in a huge drop.

Marco Faraone returns to Drumcode with some of his most inspired work ever, comprising of four tracks crossing the Techno spectrum.

Growing up Marco was surrounded by 90s Italo house and techno, which have all had a part in the current sound he produces today. Never one to stick to any individual style, he can often surprise his fans with a set pumping out peak time beats to down tempo house cuts with catchy vocals.

 “With this release, I took some inspiration from listening back to some old Vitalic sounds and giving some extra power to the use of synths in each track. It’s got a festival vibe to it, which is something I wanted to achieve” - Marco

His last Drumcode EP was back in 2016, so this October he makes a welcome return showing his multiskilled productions at their full potential on this mega 4 tracker, opening with the gargantuan ‘Never Forget’. Mutating rhythmic synths hark back to the good ol’ days of BXR and the limitless talent of the Italian Techno scene in the late 90s. Boiling over in the main break this is crowd-pleasing dance music at its finest. 

‘Cruiser’ is a bumpy upbeat ride with a strong melodic hook that will have the hands raised and the feet stomping. Title track ‘Lunar Eclipse’ is a dense, at times claustrophobic roller. Menacing to begin with, the addition of the main melodic motifs lifts the mood midway. ‘Take This Trip’ rounds out an incendiary EP. Lighter and more musical that the previous three, it offers a joyful, softer message.
