Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I’m a very reserved and private person. Definitely on the “let the music speak for itself” vibe when it comes to my career but I also find myself applying that to every facet of my life the older I get. People are usually surprised when they meet me in person because they assume I’m more “out there”, which is hilarious to me. My real friends know I’m a big clown though haha.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. That’s honestly hard for me to answer personally. I was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Los Angeles but my first trip to NYC was in 2015. I came here already having a solid year+ of remote collaboration with Kush Jones and got to know a lot of people born and raised here. Since then people also assumed I’m from the Bronx, which I’ll gladly joke around with but I actually moved to there late 2017. For the first year living uptown people didn’t register that I was based in NYC because 98% of people in our music scene have never been to the Bronx. Once I moved to Brooklyn in 2019 it was a pretty aggressive upward trajectory. It’s always wild to remind myself the first time Kush and I played Bossa even was 2019.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. Recording this mix was a fluid expression of myself, how I listen to and experience music while high. The only prompt I gave myself was “what do I want to listen to on 420?” and I recorded it first try. I never go into DJing anything with a lot or if any preparation. The process of putting my mind to a subject, theme, type of crowd and space in the moment then going off that energy is such a release for me. Once I see the effects of those decisions on my end, I go on autopilot and the consistency of the outcome is secondary in my opinion.

Last year, New Jersey group OSSX wowed us with a mix of completely original material that blended infectious edits of Janet Jackson and September with tracks like "Split Wig"—one of last year's indisputable breakbeat anthems—that showed how the then-duo could bring together generations of American dance music into one compelling, vibrant mix that celebrates all shades of East Coast club.

Their RA Podcast might not be an all-originals mix, but it shares the same spirit. OSSX—now a trio, with Juke Bounce Werk member Elise joining original duo Equiss and Lektor Scopes—sprinkle the mix with more of their excellent unreleased originals, in-between canny and clever edits new and old, like DJ Sega's rework of Basement Jaxx's "Where Your Head At," which makes for an early highlight, along with DJ Swisha's Baltimore club edit of Robin S.'s "Luv 4 Luv" and the bouncy DJ Problem version of Mary J. Blige's classic "Family Affair." You can hear both the evolution and history of these genres through this mix, along with cuts that touch on UK garage, ballroom and jungle. Galtier is a DJ, Producer and label founder of Nostro Hood System: A thematic label focused on the xenological discovery of an alternate galaxy to our own that sets out to showcase the musical artefacts that originate from it. 

Galtier's productions are crystalline, soundscape-oriented leftfield electronic artefacts that borrow heavily from Techno, UK Bass, World Influenced Percussive Rhythms, Drum & Bass, Dancehall and Ambient, to name but a few. Through these and his other influences, Galtier manages to identify as a standalone producer through applying his deep interest in other areas of cultural media to his sound, moving laterally away from the linear. His distinctive interest in the myriad world of rhythm and percussion - coupled with a love for 1980’s science fiction & fantasy that he grew up watching - help sculpt his compositions into imaginative, thematic electronic tracks. 

With 10 years experience on the controls and an eclectic collection of tracks at his disposal, a Galtier set is limitless. No restrictions on BPM and a desire to keep things ever-changing, expect a massive shift in tempo throughout even a brief Galtier set. His cohesive understanding of music accompanied by his passion for creating his own unique and stylistic approach has won him admiration and respect on an international scale. His back-catalogue features releases on influential labels such as Infinite Machine, NAAFI, Files Rec and Apothecary Compositions, with a slew of releases hosted on his own label Nostro Hood System as well.
