Once a music man, always a music man. Case in point: Jim Kaufman.

Best known as the guitarist/synth mastermind behind post-hardcore rock band, Opiate for the Masses, Kaufman is busy parlaying that success into another arena—developing and producing artists.

For Kaufman, it all boils down to one simple equation: “I like to create careers for people.”

On Kaufman’s front burner right now is Nashville-based singer/songwriter Elliot Collett and his band Future Thieves. The pair, who began working together two years ago, have been in the studio of late with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington. The latter has co-produced three songs with Kaufman and Collette for the newcomer’s debut rock album.

Kaufman’s work isn’t limited to rock. His songwriting and production credits run the gamut from country and pop to world music. Within the former, he’s worked with the late Tim Johnson and Stereo Snakes, a country band from Spain. The latter includes Kirtan act Govind Das & Radha, headliners at the 2013 Bhakti Festival in Joshua Tree, which attracts some 200,000 attendees each year. On the pop side, he produced actress E.G. Daly’s last album, The New Collection.

But he hasn’t entirely forsaken his artist side. Kaufman will be releasing A Party of One, his self-written and produced solo album via iTunes on XX.  A skillful fusion of electronic instrumentation and old-school songwriting fundamentals—verse, chorus and bridge—the set features E.G. Daly on the mesmerizing track “A Rifle in My Hand.” Other standouts include “The Artist” and “Breathe.”

“Coming from my background as a piano player, programmer and synth man in Opiate, this was something I really wanted to do,” says Kaufman of the 2 ½-year project. “It’s a little scary, but cool. I just wanted to do something creative.”

That’s an itch he’s been scratching ever since he was a kid growing up in his native Phoenix Arizona. The youngest of four siblings, Kaufman was born to an amateur musician dad and a mom who was “super adamant about classical piano lessons.” Playing in bands during a childhood influenced by rock’s yin and yang— Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains and Nine Inch Nails—Kaufman attended the New School for the Arts during his senior year of high school.

That’s where he took up guitar. And later forged pivotal creative alliances with two other students. Two years later in 1999, Kaufman—with drummer Elias Mallin [Ke$ha, Filter] and lead singer Ron Underwood [9 Electric]—created Opiate for the Masses. 

An EP produced by Nine Inch Nails’ keyboardist Charlie Clouser led to the group signing a label deal. A series of releases ensued, including the 2001 and 2002 EPs Seven and Goodbye followed by 2005’s The Spore and 2008’s Manifesto before Opiate disbanded in 2009.

Before leaving the group himself in 2008, Kaufman segued into work as Clouser’s assistant.  That relationship later led to his role as assistant engineer for alternative metal band Helmet’s 2004 album Size Mattters as well as Kaufman assisting Clouser during the scoring of Saw 1. From there, Kaufman scored indie films for Lionsgate as well as the Internet television show “Models Turned Superstars.”

Those endeavors eventually sharpened Kaufman’s present resolve: to become a first-class producer. “Working with Charlie, and other platinum producers like John Travis [Kid Rock], Ulrich Wild (Pantera, Static X), and Ed Stasium  [Talking Heads, Ramones], I witnessed their production process first-hand and learned how they handled artists,” explans Kaufman, whose producer idol is Rick Rubin. Like them, I always try to make sure I’m telling a story about where the band/act is in their life. How we record reflects on the future of that act.”

Kaufman divides his time between his own studios in Culver City, Calif. and Sedona, Arizona as well as such L.A. studios as Ocean Way and Nightbird. Always on the move, the music man is also a savvy businessman. In addition to co-owning Nashville publishing company the Song Factory, Kaufman co-owns popular Phoenix pizza food truck Saffron Jack and helps manage his family’s real estate company.

But at heart, Kaufman is a studio guy who possesses a unique, innate talent. “Watching an artist grow as a musician and/or songwriter, capturing his or her body of work, documenting a piece of history. If I can influence that,” declares Kaufman, “and the world can hear that artist through my ears, then I’ll feel like I’ve done something really great in music. That’s what I strive for.”

damienj, started his musical journey in the late 1980’s with the first “illegal raves” to hit the small town in the South Lakes town of Ulverston. 
Living in a Buddhist community since the age of 5yrs, he was used to the different styles and sounds of the multicultural environment and enjoyed the changing faces of all the different people he would meet over the years. 
The “Rave Scene” was an explosion of sounds, tastes and people: From the Whirl y gig in London the club that began in 1981 as a collaboration with the Association of Humanistic Psychology to encourage "anyone who enjoys dance as a means of self-expression”. to the brick factory in the South Lakes and then onto the Cave Raves in Coniston, Damien.j experienced it all. 
The “illegal Raves” slowing down damien.j took to the clubs visiting some of the most well known of the time around the North West of England and beyond. The club scene would form the backbone to damien.j and his musical taste and style. Enjoying nights in clubs such as The Carlton, Morcambe, Zone in Blackpool, Shelley’s in Stoke-on-Trent and the Eclipse in Coventry, damien.j partied until the sun came up and beyond. 

Now living in Perth, Australia damien.j has a family and plies his trade whilst watching the sun set on the gorgeous Indian Ocean, with his Roland SE-02 Studio Electronics, Korg Minilogue and Roland Airia TR-8, the old school sounds start to be created again!

SIDRA’s grinding rhythm and drums section provides a turmoil-laden ebbing foundation to support the guttural vocals calling out in despair to the darkness. Shining synths and eery guitars ring, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

This female-fronted four piece horror show came together and rose from the ashes of previous musical endeavors in 2011, originally founded by Matt Haskell and Sean Conkling. Each member brings their own identity, inspirations and innovation to the group. This has advantageously allowed them to mix their various influences to meld minds and make some of the heaviest music pounding the clubs right now.

Sean Conkling

Sean has been touring both as a musician and Front of House engineer for many years. Sean started making music at age 15. At 19 Sean began a non-stop pace touring with his band Jermflux. In the mid ‘90s Sean combined his love of music with the newly developing computer recording technology known as Pro Tools. With his previous experience in the computer industry as a programmer, internet networking administrator as well as experience in various professional studios both in Phoenix, Virginia and Massachusetts, Sean brings an immense technical prowess and history of music production to the table.

In 2004 Sean opened Burning Blade Studio as engineer, producer and owner. 

Matt Haskell

Matt began playing drums early on in life at the tender age of 10. Through high school Matt enthusiastically worked to increase not only his drum collection, but also his technical proficiency in as many different styles as possible. With a history delving into a number of genres including industrial and metal, he keeps the clock running to a very precise timing.

Matt went to Berklee College of Music for music theory, and later the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences for recording and production. He spent some time working at Villain Recording and Brick Road Studios in Phoenix, Arizona, perfecting his recording, drum editing and audio production skills. Matt has done session work for multiple bands in the Phoenix area. After a chance meeting between two common friends, Matt and Sean formed SIDRA in 2011.

Jeremy Hinskton

Jeremy has a long history in the music realm. In 2003, Jeremy made his debut with his band Audkik. The band dominated the southern California metal scene, hitting up shows with Exodus, Prong, Kittie, In This Moment, 36 Crazyfists, Walls of Jericho and many more. After a number of good years with Audkik, Jeremy relocated to the white-to Zurich, Switzerland. While he did spend some time learning how to record music on his own, he decided to relocate to Tempe, Arizona to further sharpen his audio recording chops.

Jeremy was quite eager to get playing again, and the type of music SIDRA offered was eclectic enough...heavy...and very free form which allowed his creativity to boil. From then on, Jeremy has been the guitarist for SIDRA. 


Stacie

Entering the metal scene in 2003, Stacie did guest appearance vocals with the band Toilsome, based out of Lansing, Michigan. With that experience, she craved more and  joined Seizure Lake in 2005. Seizure Lake played many shows and festivals, recorded a four track untitled demo in 2006, a five song EP in  2008, and an eight song album in 2010. Stacie moved to Arizona in 2011, and later that year, she met, Matt and Sean at a halloween party, and joined SIDRA in early 2012.



SIDRA released itself upon the world in 2013, with live punishing shows shattering mirrors and perceptions alike. Keep an eye out, because they are coming for you...

Edward Maya born Eduard Marian Ilie on June 29, 1986 is a Romanian DJ, performer and record producer of electronic dance music. Being raised in an environment that treasures the true artistic value of musicianship and revels in the mastering of instrumental skill, it was Edward's deep rooted love and passion for music that encouraged him to start his career as an international artist attending Bucharest's George Enescu Music High School.
While continuing his studies at the Bucharest Conservatory, Edward Maya began writing songs, one of which became an entry in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest, and collaborating with a number of Romania's leading producers, earning credits on different recordings. He become a successful producer in his own right with the work he put in the making of the romanian band Akcent album "No Tears" , which scored a number of hits in Europe like "Stay with Me", "That's My Name" and "Lover's Cry". 
 Although he's only been in the public eye only since 2009, he crammed at least a decade's worth of career highs and lows into those few short, high-profile years. He came to prominence grace to his new and unique touch to the house music scene with the unmistakable accordion sounds that made him a global figure in clubs all over the world in only one year after the release of his first single as an artist in the summer of 2009 called "Stereo Love" featuring Russian DJ Vika Jigulina. The single entered the top 5 singles charts in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and The Sultanate of Oman and it was certified platinum in Canada, Denmark, Germany,Switzerland and double platinum in Spain.
 After accumulating over 300 million views on Youtube and making Edward Maya the first Romanian featured in the Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 as the single peaked at number 17, reaching the number one Dance Airplay single of 2010 in Billboard's Year End issue and the longest charting in the history of the European Top Hot 100 with a total of 52 weeks spent on charts it was time for "Stereo Love" to claim another milestone as the finalists for the 2011 Billboard Music Award were announced featuring Edward Maya besides Lady Gaga, Yolanda Be Cool &amp; D Cup and La Roux in the Top Dance Song category as the only romanian song in the competition. It has also topped the Billboard Dance/Club Play at number 1 and became very popular in cities like New York City reaching #1 at various radio stations. 
 In May 2010, Edward Maya released his follow-up single, "This Is My Life" featuring vocals from Vika Jigulina that quickly became an international hit being featured in the Romanian Top 100 and the European Hot 100 Singles charts and racking up almost 80 million views on YouTube as a result of the tremendous number of shows Edward Maya had in his "This Is My Life Tour" in countries like Brazil, Senegal, Dubai, Albania, India and many other where the Romanian music was still unknown.
 In recent years, Edward Maya's focus has shifted over many things, as the former music producer in now the proud owner of his own company “Mayavin Company” which includes a record label "Mayavin Records", a booking agency that represents artists as Ida Corr, Yolanda Be Cool, Steve Edwards, Chris Willis and others, and "Mayavin Store" an online store where you can find all Edward Maya’s songs, albums and fashion items, yet another big step further in his rising career. 
 His contributions to the Romanian music industry have gained him numerous achievements, Edward Maya's lifelong devotion to music serving him well as he continues to improve his work and musical style with the release of his third single "Desert Rain" featuring Vika Jigulina on Christmas night worldwide, being his first single as an independent artist released under his own record label "Mayavin Records". The single spawned 15 million views on YouTube in only few months after release and reached number 1 in various radio stations charts all over the world.
 After the release of his third single Edward Maya announced the start of his "Desert Rain Tour" in January 2011 reaching an audience of over 150.000 people around the world and with sold out concerts in countries like USA, Ecuador, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, The United Arab Emirates and many more. Standing at the heart of his touring is Edward Maya's live act "The Stereo Love Show" starring him as a performer, DJ and accordionist along with his back-up guitarist and keyboardist vibrating to an award-winning mix of ancient romanian music and distinctive electronic beats.
 In the spring of 2011 Edward Maya launched the "Searching For Talents" campaign in collaboration with his record label Mayavin Records giving fans all over the world the chance to win an official record deal.
