An underground scene in the psycho tropics of crazy-meets-mad India—the most off-the-clock permissible place—was where Ray Castle found himself behind a palm tree with two Walkmans and a stack of cassettes mixing Special Goa Music in the jungle of Disco Valley Vagator in the late 80s.
What was this music? How did it find its way here? What was so special about it? Why did it have agency in Goa, like no where else?
For the DJ, each track was a hallucinogenic spell, an imaginal theme park ride, an aural-gasm rush—a mini drama in a nusical neural weave. Night music, first light music, morning music. This was not a night club in the wilderness. This was metaphysical, life-altering, eight-hour-dancing-non-stop, ritual experience. A unique Special Goa Music dancefloor sound that was a Gonzo blender of World Music, New Wave, Industrial, Break Beat, Neu Beat, EBM, Disco, Electro, House, Rave, Acid Tekno—all under 128 bpm. 
After ’93 the music sped up, became a genre—Trance, within which Castle produced music, inevitably to become trapped in cookie cutter fashion. Gonzo celebrates free range music on the dancefloor, which is the Goa he wants you to know about.
