For us, Norm is the ultimate definition of a selector, and many in the community will agree. Needless to say, we were incredibly excited when he joined TNP as a resident. His new show “Faking Jazz Together” is an excellent addition to his other projects, which include(d) Memorabilia, Bayetë and Native Dance.

Norm’s ability to unearth the warmest, sweetest and deepest sounds is unprecedented. The first installment of his residency stole our hearts: a jaw dropping, incredible selection of lush music that we didn’t know we needed to hear. We recommend you to listen to this one eyes closed, shoes off, laying in the sun. 

Words from Norm: “This opening Faking Jazz Together show connects the dots between songs cleverly juggling with chords voicing and offbeat progressions. Spanning from major studios productions, One-Hit-Wonders and confidential amateur acts, these titles share a charming perspective of these codes while treasuring a genuine song writing. 

This is my fantasized outtake of what could have been a local fusion jazz program back then. It features biting AOR, hazy Chanson, fierce Boogie, Japanese Bossa impersonation and wistful Italian score.”

In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. We finish off 2020 with a fine mix by NYC's very own DJ Lloyd. And it was worth the wait. He always digs deep and keeps it fresh as he tears his way through a bunch of 80s Disco covers like only he can.  

Lloyd has been involved in most things in NYC of any note as a DJ, record collector, party promoter, radio host and purveyor of fine chat. You can catch him regularly on The Lot Radio. Thanks to our man for finishing this crappy year off in style. See you on the other side people!
