The online radio station Retreat Radio has acted as a unifying force on the underground scene in Malmö for close to a decade and now offers its first compilation of original music from its vast community.

A community grown exponentially like a virus, with Retreat Radio as the source of infection, comprised of artists in various stages of despair revelling in hazy ambient, angular industrial rhythms and post-dub influences. Now bringing you 24 tracks of frog-induced head music made for a sad generation that wanted to be club kids but had no club to go to.

Many - if not all - of the names behind this mammoth of a compilation are Retreat residents with current or past monthly shows on the programme. Many of whom have walked the stark lit street at the outskirts of town at night to climb a spiral staircase above a carwash to play their shows.

Loosely centered around the interpretation of dub as a genre, the compilation hand-picks a curation of tracks which nonetheless point to a coherent vision: that of dub as a vital cornerstone in the development of new music reflecting on an urban post-capitalist environment.

This radio show seeks to explore and visualize the vast spectrum of human emotions and everyday moments through sonic experimentation. By blending a wide array of sounds—field recordings, poetry, spoken word, and influences from past and contemporary artists—i want to create an immersive, multisensory experience that challenges traditional boundaries of perception.
Drawing from genres such as experimental, ambient, drone, noise, deconstructed, emo, downtempo, and beyond, the show will serve as a canvas for emotional depth and complexity. It will offer a journey where sound becomes a mean for introspection, revealing how emotions, thoughts, and reality itself can become fluid and uncertain.
In this space, words will coexist with sounds, inviting listeners to experience a reality that is both elusive and vivid, where the lines between the spoken, the heard, and the felt blur into a dynamic exploration of what it means to be human in an ever-shifting world.

Between the absurdity and the horrors of reality you can find their sound. An eclectic mix of clubby yet swampy kicks and textures, overlaid with never-ending ambient bliss. They are always leaning to include the rhythms and percussions from their homeland, which bring a ritualistic atmosphere and that they always carry close to their ajayu.
Let’s find peace in the trash together.

qanossonap is an artist based in Athens, Greece, known for their experimental approach to sound. Their work often explores themes of memory, body, feelings and the dissolution of boundaries between self and environment. Their music is characterised by a blend of electronic, experimental, ambient and dance elements.

Was so much fun coming in as a guest on Sunsets with Tangela a couple thursdays ago, big up to Parcae for trusting me and guiding me into these IDM and techno realms. Stay tuned for their residency as Tangela is off repping Eora in the EU. Got to play lots of halftime, hypnotic techno and psydm that I had never explored before. Was very inspired by the recent Turning Tables doof in Ngunnawal especially the sets by Sunju Hargun and Tangela.
