After years of underwhelming dance floors and sadness at the disinheritance of blackness from techno and house music especially on the LA scene, we’ve begun a social experiment, coalition, cloud formation; entitled “rave reparations”. The initiative aims to help build relationships between local black DJs, specifically queer / femme / bipoc and house/techno promoters who are largely not of these communities. We also call on support from these lesser marginalized bodies in conscripting venues and fiscal support for parties thrown by the aforementioned groups.

This live set traces a lineage of resistance and reinvention, folding Southern hip-hop textures into a dreamscape of memory and future. Infused with West African influences — a nod to Texas’s vibrant West African immigrant communities, the largest in the US. Arnaud Briens, aka Deepo @deeposcrrrouiiiiizzz, is from Rennes, France. He is involved in the maintenant festival, weighing in on the bookings, and a fervent visitor of Unsound festival in Poland. A deep collectionner of gritty bass music as much as experimental jazz, noise, IDM, ambient and other edgy music, avid SLSK users no doubt have crossed his path there. Needless to say, it is an honour to host him here.

When I asked him to describe his set, he said “purple to ruby red”, assimilating as always colors to music. In other terms, he started off with glitch hop, with touches of dubstep, d&b, hyperglitch and more to “vary the colours”. Add to that dabbling in more experimental music, in which he compromised to make this geleia digestible by anyone. Headphones on!

Arnaud Briens, mais conhecido como Deepo, é de Rennes, na França. Participa ativamente do Festival Maintenant, trabalhando na curadoria artística, e é presença cativa do festival Unsound, na Polônia. Ávido colecionador de bass music crua, tanto quanto de jazz experimental, noise, IDM, ambient e outras sonoridades ousadas, é um nome que sem dúvida usuários assíduos do Soulseek já cruzaram em seus caminhos por lá. Não é preciso dizer que é uma honra tê-lo aqui.

Quando perguntei como ele descreveria seu set, respondeu: “do roxo ao vermelho-rubi” — comparando, como sempre, música a cores. Em outras palavras: começa no glitch hop, com pitadas de dubstep, drum & bass, hyperglitch e outros estilos para “variar as cores”. No meio do caminho, se aventura também em faixas mais experimentais, mas sempre de um jeito que deixa essa mistura mais “digestível” para qualquer ouvinte. Então, coloque o fone e aproveite a viagem.
