Mutant Radio (Tbilisi, GE) monthly residency, episode #50, September '25. With summer approaching it's end Jouko hooked up with Adrenaline Andrei yet again, all happening after a few months of complete disconnection between the two. No hard feelings though, everybody knows Andrei hates the festival season deeply. These two hours of plastic soup were cooked up at Andrei's mansion as some sort of mid summer depression therapy. It might be helpful to some.

This mixtape showcases Turkish rock from the 1970s to the 2010s, capturing the soundtrack of my teenage years in Istanbul and the nights spent in Taksim’s dingy dive bars in the early 2000s, which is where the name of the mix comes from. Though heavily influenced by Turkish folk music and Anatolian psych rock, every artist here is either from Istanbul or the band was formed there, making this, in a way, the sound of the city itself. Around the halfway mark, the sound shifts from “the roots” to the more “current,” reflecting the DIY/indie sound and the spirit of this era. Several tracks feature recognisable samples from Yeşilçam cinema (the golden era of Turkish film, circa 1960s), magnifying cultural and political discourse that resonated then and still resonates today. we’re back in new york this week to spotlight the brilliant dj, promoter & dancer mui mui. the promotor behind the techno casa parties (‘but not limited to techno by any means’ she says), mui mui has hosted residencies on noods radio and hong kong community radio where she’s been able to showcase the full scope of her sounds from the club to the home or digging deep into different narratives such as “something silly like a computer gaining sentience, or a dog getting lost and finding its way back home, but there’s always a beginning, middle, and end.” describing herself as ‘spiritually from bristol’, mui mui’s sound is influenced by the likes of hessle audio, the klf, autechre, mary anne hobbs, the ogs from detroit and many more. this diversity in inspiration is channeled throughout her mixes ~ on this occasion she steps away from the 140 sound she’s been playing a lot recently to dive into the 90-95 bpm wormhole.
