For the 94th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome Ouissam(@ouissamhk)! As the founder of Hong Kong’s Cliche Records, he was one of the first in that city to cultivate a disco-house-techno synthesis that shifted the understanding of what could be danced to there. 

He went on to create the magnetic Homesick and Fragrant Harbour labels, before suddenly setting his sights on Hanoi in Vietnam, where he has established the dance mecca Savage where he runs the monthly queer night Snug.  This hour long mix is a perfect example of his ability to move effortlessly between disco, house and techno. Enjoy!

Grabé este set con mucho cariño la última noche que cerré @yuyucineclub, (BiO), uno de mis clubes favoritos desde que llegué a México hace ya casi 9 años, y que tan memorables noches de meditación ha dado a nuestros oídos. Lo que no sabía era que sería la última noche del club hasta nuevo aviso, o le reasignen un nuevo espacio junto a @dramaradiobar…

Es una lástima ver como los pocos clubes de nicho de la ciudad se ven obligados a cerrar sus puertas por la situación tan compleja, insegura e insostenible que vive el arte y ocio nocturno de la CDMX.

Espero que espacios que durante grandes temporadas se sostuvieron con el corazón en la mano, tanto de su equipo como de su público, como YuYu (que ha sido casi un hogar para mí) y @clubcolima, sean reubicados y puedan continuar su actividad pronto. 

Mientras tanto nos queda seguir apoyando el proyecto ajeno, invertir en ellos con lo que nos alcance, abrirnos a escuchar a otrxs, coordinar fuerzas entre colectivos, romper los egos de los que promueven el ocio que consumimos (y cuando digo romper es nombrar y visibilizar cualquier muestra de poder que han estado minimizando a nuestrxs cercanxs), queriendo mirar de verdad y resignificar esto, porque definitivamente el contexto no es alentador. 

Me incluyo e incluyo mis proyectos como @honest_allies, en el intento de sostener una escena tan golpeada por la corrupción, la cual no deja de fomentar la precarización de la cultura. Lo que está claro, es que la escena está profundamente drenada y desgastada y que ya no se sostiene solo con la persistencia de eventos longevos o itinerantes que explotaron con el boom postpandémico, ahora en letargo de la calidad en por de una innumerable cantidad sin alma. Siento más que necesario este extraño step back que está viviendo la escena cultural, hablando desde la frustración propia, para repensarnos y volver con fuerza y consciencia.  

Es triste ver como artistas nos consumen, van y vienen, tildando la escena de México como una de las mejores en la que han estado, enalteciendo su sonido transgresor, autenticidad en la producción y corazón o entrega del público, pero definitivamente no solo de la resistencia se vive.
