3024 TAPES are back! This time with a live recording of Martyn performing at Germany's best sounding club, Wuppertal's own Open Ground on Nov 16th 2024 - Enjoy.

3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

Martyn: This was my first gig on Open Ground's system and I loved every second of it. The set kind of meanders to connect between a few tracks I decided I really wanted to hear on that sound, like Archangel, an old Aux88 jam and Hieroglyphic Being's "21 Ways". 


3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Martyn: This particular night was with two of my fave DJ's, Jossy Mitsu ; who, without a doubt along with Ehua, Mia Koden and Re:ni are in my opinion leading the charge at the moment when it comes to bass music in the UK.  And an old favorite Joker - who I hadn't heard for years but was just incredible, playing a crazy set of grime instrumentals, dubstep classics, oddball electronica and even mixing a Joy Division record into an old DMZ (!!) 


3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Martyn: There's some incredible music coming on 3024 which I am very excited about. Also more 3024 Tapes and a few little jams by myself under my Gabe & Jude alias.

The second installment in Darwin’s curated mixes for Rhythmic Culture comes from UK duo Dual Monitor. Their boundary-pushing productions have earned them the moniker “The UK Genre Alchemists” from Rinse FM. This open-format approach to music carries through to their vibrant, kaleidoscopic DJ sets—no two ever the same. The duo deftly weaves together twisted, low-slung UK bass, skittering IDM, dancefloor-shaking tech-bow, and zoned-out dub and jungle.

Darwin: "The story of Dual Monitor is actually a really cute one. Jake Hodge sent me a track they made "Step Pattern" because he was so blown away by the production and said "You need to sign this," and I did instantly not even listening to it a second time! Fliss and Zebb are hands down some of the most talented up-and-coming producers I’ve come across in a while. The speed at which they’re cranking out tunes and dubs, and the range in their sound, is unreal. On top of that, they’re two of the loveliest people to hang with. So happy to have them as part of the SPE:C family."

Introspekt at Ring, Horst Arts & Music 2025

While creating the track "Stay with me," I aimed to build a strong Drum & Bass rhythm. I carefully selected the drum and bass elements to create an energetic and memorable foundation. I tried to keep the melody simple yet impactful, so it could convey both movement and emotion to the listener. My inspiration came from everyday life and the relationships around me; therefore, the track creates an atmosphere that invites you to dance while carrying an intimate feeling.
