Chained and helpless, Raewyn closed her eyes, focusing on the ancient teachings of her people. The rain in the forest, the rustle of leaves and the songs of the birds all came flooding back, calming her mind and steeling her spirit.

Her voice was firm as she invoked the Ancient Ones: "May the Guardians of the Threshold watch over me, and the Light of the Silver Tree guide me through the darkness."

As she spoke, a faint, silvery glow began to emanate from her very being, a light that seemed to grow in intensity as she drew on the power of her Elven heritage.

Tresur Heldros flung the door open, his eyes narrowing and a flicker of unease dancing across his face. "You are strong, I'll give you that," he sneered. "But you are still chained, still trapped. And in the end, you will be mine."

Raewyn smiled, a cold, mirthless smile. "We shall see, monster," she whispered, her eyes flashing with defiance. "We shall see...."

Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction, Carrier Bag Music reimagines the mixtape as a container — for, before the tool that forces energy outward, we made the tool that brings energy home.
In this new audio series, curated by Ignota in collaboration Haus der Kulturen der Welt, contemporary artists and producers present sonic explorations of Le Guin’s articulation of holding, gathering and caring through technologies such as “a medicine bundle, holding things in a particular, powerful relation to one another and to us” and “an imperturbably functioning chronometer telling the time on another world”.

The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction by Ursula K. Le Guin is published with an Introduction by Donna Haraway and images by Lee Bul by Ignota.

“The mix is comprised of unreleased material from myself, friends and artists admire, in the form of sketches, drafts, field recordings and archival sounds.
